Born in Wamrong, Trashigang, Cheyang Kenchap's journey is a story of resilience, determination, and hope. Living with a lower-limb impairment, he faced challenges from an early age, but he never allowed them to stand in the way of his dreams.
While studying at the Draktsho Vocational Training Center, Cheyang enjoyed dancing, basketball, and volleyball. Little did he know that a simple dance video shared on social media would change his life. The video caught the attention of a badminton coach who recognized his potential and encouraged him to try para badminton.
With the support of his family, coaches, the Bhutan Badminton Federation, and the Bhutan Paralympic Committee, Cheyang embraced the opportunity and dedicated himself to the sport. Through hard work, discipline, and perseverance, he steadily developed into one of Bhutan's promising para badminton athlete.
His efforts have taken him beyond Bhutan's borders, competing in international tournaments such as the Japan Para Badminton International, Thailand Para Badminton International, and the Asian Youth Para Games, where he proudly won a bronze medal for Bhutan.
Cheyang's journey reminds us that opportunities can come from the most unexpected places and that success is achieved through courage, determination, and belief in oneself. Today, he continues to inspire young people across Bhutan, proving that no obstacle is too great when dreams are pursued with passion and purpose.
