El GM argentino de 12 años, Faustino Oro, finalizó su primera Olimpiada de ajedrez (disputado en Samarcanda, Uzbekistán).

Faustino, cerró una destacada participación en el torneo, finalizando con una puntuación de 7 sobre 11 posibles. Gracias a esta sólida actuación, el jugador argentino logró una performance de 2598 y sumó 12.1 puntos a su rating.
Oro demostró su nivel ante rivales de élite mundial, destacando sus tablas conseguidas contra el GM de élite Shakhriyar Mamedyarov (2720), Haik Martirosyan y Jorge Cori. Asimismo, sumó cuatro victorias completas frente a Kuka Kyle, Omar Eltigani, Paulo Bersamina y Tomi Nyback. Su única derrota fue contra el Gran Maestro turco Yagiz Kaan Erdogmus. The 12-year-old Argentine Grandmaster, Faustino Oro, has concluded his first Chess Olympiad, held in Samarkand, Uzbekistan.
Faustino delivered a remarkable tournament run, finishing with a score of 7 out of 11. Thanks to this solid showing, the Argentine player achieved a performance rating of 2598 and gained 12.1 rating points.
Oro demonstrated his top-level skills against world-class opposition, most notably securing draws against elite Grandmasters Shakhriyar Mamedyarov (2720), Haik Martirosyan, and Jorge Cori. Additionally, he claimed four full-point victories against Kuka Kyle, Omar Eltigani, Paulo Bersamina, and Tomi Nyback. His only defeat came against Turkish Grandmaster Yagiz Kaan Erdogmus. ♟️🇱🇰 HISTORY MADE AT THE CHESS OLYMPIAD!

With one round still to play, Sri Lanka’s Women’s Team has secured Gold in Category C at the Chess Olympiad — the first-ever Category C gold medal in Sri Lankan history! 🥇

After 10 rounds, the team has collected 14 points, sitting three points clear in their category. Starting the Olympiad ranked 77th, they have climbed to 18th overall, ahead of every Category B team.

What an incredible journey for Oshini, Dahamdi, Sandithi, Yenuthi and Sayumi. Your hard work, discipline and determination have made the whole country proud. ❤️🇱🇰

This achievement is also a result of the incredible support behind the team — coaches, trainers, team management, parents, sponsors, officials and everyone who worked to get our players to Samarkand and support them throughout the Olympiad.

A special thank you to GM Dejan Bojkov, GM Boris Chatalbashev, Akila Kavinda, Kashyapa Kulasekera, Elephant House, and everyone who played a part in this historic achievement.

A special appreciation also goes to Lady Official W V Washini Chamithri Surasingha for her dedicated support and contribution throughout the team’s journey at the Olympiad. Her commitment and assistance behind the scenes have been greatly valued.
