🇧🇪 Wezembeek-Oppem Community Update in English

🚧 Roadworks on Marmotlaan and Astridlaan
The asphalt will be renewed, and both streets will close to motorised traffic for several days. Residents and visitors should check the schedule and make alternative arrangements where necessary.
🌳 Make Your Garden Greener
Through the annual Behaag je tuin group purchase, residents can order native trees, hedges and shrubs at reduced prices. Different packages are available to suit different gardens.
⛪ Kloostertuin Heritage Restored
The chapel and Lourdes grotto have been restored. The park’s trees have also been inspected, and a long-term management plan has been developed.
🚗 Car-Free Sunday in Brussels
Brussels will be car-free on 21 September, from 09:30 until 19:00. The Ring remains open to motor vehicles, and STIB-MIVB public transport will be free that day.

📞 New Pension Helpline Number
From 1 September, questions about pensions can be directed to 02 225 17 65. The existing 1765 number will no longer be used.

The commune is inviting residents with experience, expertise or a strong interest in childcare and children’s activities to apply to join its local BOA partnership and advisory body.
🚲 Travelling Safely to School
The commune has published practical advice for parents and children who cycle to school together.
🔋 Plug-in Home Batteries
The newsletter also examines whether plug-in home batteries offer an affordable way to store solar electricity. Their usefulness may be limited by Belgium’s legal 800-watt threshold, so they will not be financially attractive for every household.
🎉 September Activities
The commune’s September programme includes 1970 Feest! on 6 September, World Alzheimer’s Day activities and a new public meeting with residents.
