It's been a while so time for another spotlight! For lovers of things that are uncompromisingly harsh and aggressive The Demon EP by Wavepeak is the thing that will more than satisfy any cravings you could have. This one goes hard from the crunchy distorted industrial beats to the stabby synths that at times feel like they might actually hurt you. 4 of the 6 tracks made my mixes and I'm currently agonizing over which one(s) will get the heavy repeat rotation in the coming weeks/months, but make no mistake. This entire EP deserves a lot of attention, there isn't a weak track among the 6 on offer.

It's tuesday so the new weekly :beatnation: has gone up. I've been reading what people said, but I didn't just want to share my experience with Rexx ... It'll be in this text later but first the mix. This is the only real way I know to honour Rexx Arkana. With music. 8 tracks by or featuring him. Opening predictably but needed with Forever. To me it contains the line we all need to make true as a scene for him. 'I am sentry to you now. All your hopes and all your dreams'. It's up to us now as Dj's, promotors, partygoers, occasional listeners... to continue his work. To keep his legacy alive. Rexx was a Titan for the industrial scene. We can make sure that's what he remains.
On a more personal note This year has seen me lose 2 DJ's that helped inform who I want to be as an underground DJ. First Dj Edminister, now Rexx.
I met Rexx only once and was a DJ at an event where he also played some music. A local one day festival featuring fgfc820 was cancelled, but with Rexx And Dracos already in Belgium a lifeline was cast by a a local club night. I was a regular guest DJ there. I remember a friend and I were a bit miffed with having less time on the decks, and were joking that 'here comes Mr Arkana the big American DJ'. I played the opening set (I love doing those) and right after, Rexx came up to me and wanted to specifically note that I'd played Colony 5's Ghosts. For him this was me respecting an established band that maybe never hit as big as they should. For me this was a recent track by a band I'd loved and that I wanted to push. We had a very animated discussion on music - as Dj's do - And while we didn't agree on everything and every band, we disagreed in the nicest ways and it was a fun, interesting conversation. Mostly Rexx strengthened me in doing what I do. To take it to where I really wanted to take it and to be unashamedly me as a DJ. He also said if I ever made it to NY he'd make absolutely sure I'd have a spot to DJ at. Reading all other people's memories this clearly was exactly the man he was. Passionate about promoting the entire scene.
On the night he played a lot of Belgian Electro and EBM to an audience that would've preferred a set of fgfc820 and combichrist. That was also who he was and I can only salute him for staying true to that.
Spinning this mix was emotional. I can't claim to have known him well. But he was a huge influence on me and the confidence I can have in my abilities. He mattered in my life like so many others. I miss him.

Before tomorrow's mix I wanted to do a quick Track focus on my current obsession:
Nyxady's Sinister Sonata (specifically the club mix)
This track (in part) has me literally changing my system for song selection for my weekly mix, because I want this out there. And only playing it once every 3 weeks isn't cutting it. (so I've added a very limited absolute top tracks folder that I can repeat whenever I want)
It opens with some of the nicest string work you're likely to hear in a scene track followed by a vulnerable but strong opening vocal. When the beat does kick in this song is a beacon of absolute Euphoria. Supported by a smooth ebm bassline and more strings that work to perfection, this is a song that digs into your mind and doesn't let go. Listen to the song, follow Nyxady here on FB and elsewhere.
