Un challenge personnel lancé par notre vieil ami ElDub (qui ne manque pas d'air), fouler le mont Everest de ses augustes pieds et... petite performance, surajoutée, qui signera son exploit, hisser haut les couleurs du Bug-In sur le toit du monde ! Quel bonhomme ! Nous suivrons bien évidemment son aventure, pas à pas !

"Dans 3 mois c'est décollage pour le Népal pour le toit du monde et faire le tout premier trek de ma vie pour le camp de base de l'Everest a 5500... une dizaine de jours de grimpette et un passage par Lukla (mon rêve)😎... Avec un défi fixé par Laurent Cox et Mike Walravens : y faire flotter le flag EBI 50th anniversaire du Cal-Look tout juste reçu ce jour... Un défi dans le défi 🙃, mais bon, y'a pas de flag pour célébrer le Custom... En attendant, entraînement 😅... "

On aimerait vous parler d’une légende effacée par le temps dont certains l’ayant côtoyé ou connaissant l’histoire de la création des Bug-In se souviendront. L’existence a une règle, tel un domino à échelle humaine, les légendes, comme le commun des mortels, tombent les unes après les autres.
Nous apprenons ce matin via Dean Kristen que Vic Wilson, grand fan d’Off-Road et initiateur des premiers Bug-Ins Américains, dés 1968, s’en est allé.
En 1980 il avait passé la main au Jeune Rich Kimball dont voici un témoignage.
RIP Vic et merci pour cet incroyable héritage qui perdure grâce à toi.

« J'étais le Bug-In à l'époque, et je le suis toujours. Ok, je triche un peu ! Je n'avais que 18 ans et je travaillais pour Vic Wilson. J'ai travaillé à Saddleback Park (Parc Tout-terrain récréatif, auto et moto) dont il était propriétaire. Il m'a embauché au début parce que j'étais un gamin du club Volkswagen local (le Newport Beach VW Club). J'ai travaillé pour lui jusqu'à ce qu'il vende Saddleback Park, puis j'ai hérité du Bug-In et je l'ai dirigé, probablement pendant les années les plus célèbres, 1981, 82 et 83, quand ils étaient trois fois plus grands qu'aujourd'hui. We would like to tell you about a legend erased by time, which some who knew him or know the story of the creation of Bug-Ins will remember.
Existence has a rule, like a domino on a human scale, one after the other, the legends, like ordinary mortals, fall. We learned this morning via Dean Kristen that Vic Wilson, a big fan of Off-Road and initiator of American Bug-Ins since 1968, has passed away.
In 1980, he handed over to Young Rich Kimball, whose testimony is as follows.
RIP Vic and thank you for this incredible legacy that endures thanks to you.

« I’m the Bug-In then, and I’m the Bug-In now. I’m cheating a little bit. I was only 18 and I was working for Vic Wilson. I worked up at Saddleback Park, which he owned. He hired me in the beginning because I was a kid in the local Volkswagen Club (Newport Beach VW Club). I worked for him until he sold Saddleback Park, then I inherited the Bug-In, and I ran it, probably for the most famous years, 1981, ’82 and ’83–when they were three times bigger than they are now. During the 60th anniversary celebration of the American club Der Kleiner Panzers in California, the European Bug-in received, through one of its organizers, an award from the original members of the DKP. A gift in the form of an original letter from the 1960s thanking those who supported, helped, and promoted the club.
Fred and I, along with all those who help us express our passions at the EBI, thank them for this symbolic gesture, unexpected but much appreciated.
Long live the DKP and the Cal Look, which celebrates its 50th anniversary this year.

Lors de la commémoration des 60 ans du club Américain Der Kleiner Panzers en Californie, l'European Bug-in a reçu, à travers un de ses organisateurs, une distinction émanant des membres originaux du DKP. Un présent sous forme d'une lettre des années 60 remerciant les personnes ayant soutenu, aidé, promus le club.
Fred et moi-même, ainsi que tout ceux qui nous aident dans l'expression de nos passions à l'EBI, les remercions pour ce geste symbolique, inattendu mais très apprécié.
Longue vie au DKP et longue vie au Cal look qui fête cette année ses 50 ans.
