It’s truly heartbreaking to see how quick we are to judge someone just because they don’t fit into our idea of what’s “ACCEPTABLE.”
Yes, dressing modestly and respecting cultural norms is important no doubt. But let’s take a moment to understand the situation before we throw around hate. The girl being criticized is a foreigner-someone from Russia, here in Bangladesh exploring, creating content, and sharing her experience. She’s not here to offend or provoke anyone. She’s simply being herself, expressing her personality through fashion and creativity, something that’s completely normal where she comes from.
Street-style videos, outfit changes, and expressive dressing are popular across the world. In many countries, these things aren’t seen as “vulgar” or “disrespectful”—they’re part of a digital culture that celebrates confidence and individuality.
If a Bangladeshi woman wears a burqa in Thailand or a man prays Jummah on the street while traveling, would we be okay with people mocking them? Absolutely not. We’d be outraged. So how is it fair that we judge others for simply living according to their norms?
She posted a story from her past trip to Israel, and that too became a reason for hatred. She didn’t go there to make a political statement. She’s a Christian, and it’s a part of her own background. Her post saying “hate me more” wasn’t arrogance. It was pain, frustration, and loneliness. Imagine being in a foreign land and feeling like everyone’s turning on you just because you’re different.
We often talk about how we want our elders or in-laws to be open-minded. We say we want to move forward as a society. But when it’s our turn to practice what we preach, where does that open-mindedness go?
It’s 2025. Being liberal isn’t just about wearing jeans or watching Netflix- it’s about accepting diversity, showing empathy, and understanding that our values aren’t the only values that exist. Respect isn’t just something we demand. It’s something we must give, especially to someone who’s a guest in our country.
Let’s stop the hypocrisy. You don’t have to agree with her, just don’t attack her for being different. If we expect tolerance from the world, let’s start by being tolerant ourselves.
