Strawflowers are one of my most profitable crops - not a stem goes to waste, as I dry everything I can't use fresh.

These are the 'King' series (read: massive flowers) and it's all I'll grow from now on. This handful was grown by my friend Alice from seedlings I propagated for her.

If you want to be like Alice, order your strawflower plugs now! I'm propagating a red and yellow mix this week. 121 cell trays are $121/tray, ready in approx. 8 weeks. I can also do a pink/white mix (also King size).

You could even share a tray with a friend. They're great for micro growers and backyard gardeners, whether you're selling fresh wholesale or in bouquets, or dried in wreaths or for other art & craft pursuits.

One of my favourite things about flower growing is all of the random DMs between myself and other growers - looking at you Shell , Ash , Jayne and many more 👀

"Does this look okay to you?"
"Which bug is this?"
"When did you start your X seed?"
"Look at this fail lol"
"Look at this win!"
"Do you want to split a tray or seed order of XYZ?"
"Ooh can we do a swapsy of this for this?"

Pictured above are trays of Stock from Ball that Shell and I split and planted at the same time! The first 2 photos are hers, grown in Yarrawonga, and the last is mine, grown in Yackandandah, where a fog has just blown in 🌬

It shows just how different our climates can be in fairly close proximity to one another, how days to bloom can vary and how succession planting timing and frequency can change. She can get multiple successions of stock; I can grow hydrangeas en masse. There's pros and cons of every site and microclimate. Not only this but we can support each other: when our timing differs, we can supply one another with product for weddings and other events or recommend one another to florists or retail customers.

'TCF Ballerina' is ready for its 2026 release! Named for my first daughter, she's a bit Kotara, a bit Cafe au Lait (without the drama), and a whole lot of fun. She actually came from a Jeff Bloom seed parent.

She glimmers in the sun, is a very robust plant, a prolific bloomer, has firm head attachment and has nice medium-large size blooms (big but not too big).

The first flower on each stem tends to sit low in the plant with side shoots reaching tall, creating very usable stems. A great cut flower.

Colour: soft pastel pinks with a lemony centre - this meets so many of the wedding briefs I've had this year. Its colouring is in high demand.

The picotee edge is the icing on top. She was also the last to finish blooming in my patch this year.

I have a limited amount for pre-order - please DM to order. $30 each, 1 per customer, pickup or Vic shipping only. Tubers will be sent when eyes are visible (usually August).

So I've been keeping a little secret...my property in the beautiful, gorgeous, magical utopia of Yackandandah is for sale! I am hoping to expand the flower farm and that sadly means our lovingly renovated home and one acre garden is on the market. The business and the plants that form the business are not included in the sale but there will be a beautiful perennial, wildlife-friendly and organically-managed garden (in the seven years we've been custodians) for the buyer. Other special features are a wraparound verandah, hill views, clawfoot tub on the verandah plumbed with hot water, a window seat and library wall in the living room, enormous 12m long shed with separate shower and toilet, orchard and a 3x4m Sproutwell greenhouse!

Our place is a short walk along the peaceful Yackandandah Creek into town where there's a thriving school, kindergarten and Melbourne-quality coffee. If you've been thinking about moving to Yack (or making a tree change 🌳) now is your chance 😉 Curl up by the fire, enjoy four seasons and join a community of some of the most creative, welcoming folk you'll meet.

For the nature-lovers, we have a resident Koala, Yellow-Tailed Black Cockatoos, Gang-Gangs, Spotted Pardalotes, Red-Browed Finches, Tawny Frogmouths and King Parrots to name a few. Right up the road is the famous Yack Mountain Bike Park 'Yack Tracks' and Stanley State Forest with 'Magic Forest' Redwood plantation. There are infinite hikes and day trips in the region: drive (or bike!) to nearby Beechworth, Myrtleford, Mt Beauty or the snow.

For the foodies, we have two (!) gin distilleries in town (one has won global awards) and so many outstanding wineries and restaurants within an easy drive. Yack, Beechworth, Milawa, Rutherglen...all amazing food and bev!

We're 20 min to Wodonga and a tad more to Albury (with airport). Lots of jobs!

In short, Yack is the best place ever and you should buy my house 😆

Pictured: a bouquet I was asked to make for a beloved local florist who has recently retired. What an honour.

Things I'm doing at the moment:

- Still making bouquets and doing wholesale and DIY buckets as there's been no killing frost yet
- Seed-collecting: zinnias, cosmos, dahlias, strawflowers
- Seed-sowing: ranunculus, strawflower so far (fired up the greenhouse)
- Watching my ranunc corms emerge
- Have planted all of my spring tulips, anemones, poppies and all of the ranuncs I can fit
- Potting up delphinium and campanula before I plant it out
- Taking perennial cuttings and divisions to expand my stock and to share
- Enjoying the sunshine and 20C days!
