⛽ FUEL PRICES ARE HURTING SMALL BUSINESS — SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE
I think people sometimes forget that when fuel prices rise, it doesn’t just hurt families filling up their cars — it has a massive impact on small businesses too.
When a customer sees the price of a job increase, it’s easy to say, “Why has it gone up?”
But for businesses that rely on vehicles every single day, we have to cover the cost of actually getting there and providing the service.
Fuel isn’t optional.
Whether you’re running a limousine or transport service, a trade business, cleaning company, disability support service, delivery business or any other service that requires travelling, rising fuel prices affect every single job.
And fuel is only one expense.
Registration, insurance, servicing, tyres, repairs, wages, superannuation and everyday business costs have all got to be paid before a small business owner even makes a profit.
Small businesses can’t keep absorbing every increase and pretend it isn’t happening. Eventually, some of those costs have to be reflected in what we charge.
That doesn’t mean businesses are being greedy or taking advantage of customers. It means we’re trying to keep our doors open, keep our vehicles on the road, employ people and continue providing a service.
I would like to see the Government take the impact of fuel prices on small businesses seriously and look at practical ways of reducing that pressure.
And to customers — we absolutely understand that everyone is feeling the cost of living. But when a small business has to increase the price of a job, please remember that we are feeling those increases too.
