📢 IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT: WATERSHED SPACE LEASE UPDATE
It is with mixed emotions that we share that Waratah-Wynyard Council has chosen not to renew Big hART's lease on the beautiful Watershed space on the banks of the Inglis River.
In 2022, Big hART proposed to name, fund, and activate the new empty space–Watershed–and demonstrate how it might operate to deliver the maximum benefit for our community...And boy, did we over-deliver!!
Since 2022, our talented staff, guest artists, and participants, have transformed this space into a creative industries hub connecting multiple generations across the Northwest Tasmanian community. Whilst our chapter in this physical location comes to a close, we celebrate the incredible impact it has had on strengthening community resilience and connections.
Over the past three years, our programs have combined creativity, physical activities, environmental awareness, education, music, digital literacy and the arts to promote wellbeing and mental health.
Some highlights include: • Our place-based model fostering active participation and collaboration • Successful partnerships with NWSS leading to inclusive programs like Circuit Breaker • Community utilization of our commercial kitchen, event spaces, and workshop areas • Local Chef Isabel Sykes working with WHS Hospitality class on the First Foods initiative
Thank you to everyone who has been part of this journey, especially our dedicated young people who became irreplaceable members of our tribe, demonstrating dedication and heart at every juncture as they grew in competence and confidence inside the Watershed programs. Thank you to Wynyard High School Tasmania for their support and leaning into our youth programs and initiatives.
Whilst we may be leaving the building, our commitment to the North West Tas community and the growth and possibilities of investing in our young people remains unwavering.
