Woodend Flower Farm

Woodend Flower Farm Home to Queen Vic Dahlias - 8 new dahlia Australian dahlia cultivars to grow in your garden. Available now for the first time in 2026

Fresh cut flowers are offered seasonally from early Spring to mid Autumn with both bouquets and straight bunches made using ingredients fresh from the field to order. Bouquets need to be ordered in advance via our website - by 5pm before the day required and are available for pickup only from the farm gate stall. Please note our farm is a private residence and is not open to the public for beyond

our farm gate stall. We kindly ask that you do not visit the farm without a pre-arranged appointment for farm gate pickup / outside of our weekend farm stall hours. As you can imagine, it can be startling to find people wandering around our backyard and home uninvited.

There are some flowers that you feel a special affinity with. Every time you look at them, they just make everything better. A little easier in hard times, more joyous in the good.

Queen Vic Heartbreaker is all of that to me. He's the one I visit first in the garden, he's the one that I try to put in every bouquet, every arrangement. He's always in my home in a vase and close by all flower season long. He's the one that makes me think about how much I love my family; my son, my husband. He feels like he is my family!

I really hope that if you grow him, he makes you feel this way too.

How has the first week of winter been treating you? This week so far we've had 90mm of rain; which has slowed down digging, but I'm hoping it will help set me up for next season; because our dam is has been pretty low and I think it might be just a touch more full.

I spent most of this week dividing tubers for QV Heartbreaker, and they are looking pretty great, which makes me happy 😍

I know I say this a lot but Heartbreaker really has it all! πŸ™Œ

He's got that perfect salmon pink colouring that fades off really nicely, strong stems, excellent head attachment, and repeat blooms over a long blooming window. He really is just so great and I am SO excited to share him with you all in the spring :)

I also finished shipping all the dahlia seed orders this week thank you again to everyone who ordered, I can't wait to see what you grow 🌱

Over the long weekend I'm planning on hanging at home and digging up more dahlias; what are you getting up to? The dahlia digging grind or something more fun and less dirty?

Five years ago today we settled on our house in Woodend.

I'd convinced my husband that starting a flower farm was a great idea; and while it took a lot of convincing, he's always had my back when it comes to my crazy ideas, and eventually I wore him down 🀣

The first year was a crazy whirlwind and I threw myself into it. I had no idea how to run a business; I just knew I liked growing things. And dahlias.

Collecting seed that first season I had so much excitement and hope for the future, but also fear - you never know what you'll get growing from seed. They could have all been crap!

Lucky for me a few turned out okay.

From 240 seedlings in year two, to 8 seedlings in year 5 of my farming journey.

Queen Vic Dahlias has been five years in the making, born before I really understood what I was getting myself into, and now one of my proudest achievements.

To be one of the first to grow my new Queen Vic cultivars and gain advance access to my Dahlia tuber sales; comment "waitlist" and I'll DM you the link to sign up.

Thanks for being part of my story 🌸

These are a few of my favourite things.... about Queen Vic Amore πŸ™Œ

Multiple bloom angles =

Usability in arrangements and bouquets.

Being able to see the same beautiful bloom from different angles makes for a versatile flower that I will always choose to use above one that gives the same "look" every time.

Creamy white and blush tones =

An ability to fit seamlessly into a wide range of themes.

A romantic barn style country wedding? Absolutely! A "careless" kitchen table bunch for when your friends drop by with wine and cheese? Perfect. A sleek high glam red and white wedding? She will fit right in. And yes, she does look a lot like Cafe au Lait, but without the crap performance anxiety issues. IYKYK.

Prolific growth habit =

More blooms than you can keep up with!

QV Amore absolutely pumps out the blooms all season long, and has long strong stems to go with them. She loves being disbudded, but if you miss a few, no problem she'll give you two for one - still on long strong stems.

Is she on your wishlist now too?

Let me know, and comment "waitlist" for a link to sign up to my advance sales list, so you don't miss out!

This week on the farm I couldn't help myself and I started to dig up Queen Vic Heartbreaker 😍 Just a small selection starting with the cuttings that went in the ground last, and the tubers that mothered all of Heartbreakers cuttings. Not the massive row you see here, not yet! 🀣

I'm feeling the highs and lows while I'm digging and dividing this one. The high is that you have the chance to grow him next season, but the low is that I have a feeling QV Heartbreaker is going to be more limited than I had hoped for because a lot of my cuttings are looking more like pot tubers so I can't divide them down as much as I had hoped - so there will be less to go around 😒

If you've already placed an order for QV Heartbreaker you're safe, because I never oversell my early access.

If you've got this one on your dream Dahlia list then you better sign up for my waitlist to make sure you're ready for my next tuber sale.

Today I dug up this QV Seedling 😍

When I start to dig my dahlias I usually dig up 2 - 3 cultivars depending on how many plants I have at a time.

I leave the crates of freshly dug tubers in my back patio area for a few days to dry out in the wind before I start to divide them.

Whenever I finish a cultivar, I then dig up the next one on my list - up to about 50 clumps at a time; to keep my dig / divide momentum going.

It's a system that works well for me and means I'm not doing exactly the same task every day - so it helps stave off the boredom! It seems to work well for my tubers as well, as they have just enough time to dry out before divide, a few days to dry post dividing, and then I store them in slightly damp vermiculite, which after years of trials I have found works best for me.

I don't actually know of anyone else who digs and divides this way! All I know is it works for me!

Let me know your process in the comments, I'd love to hear how you do it!

It's a little bit funny how many messages I get every week from people asking if I sell dahlia tubers 🀣

So I'm just dropping this here for clarity's sakeπŸ”Ž

Dahlia tuber sales happen in autumn / winter and then a final sale in late November if I have any left after planting my own field.

I email my waitlist subscribers in advance of tuber sales and share sales info publicly on social media once my sale has begun.

Comment "waitlist" and I'll DM you the link to sign up!

Dahlia tubers can sell like hot cakes; with some cultivars going out of stock within minutes! So it is best to be a subscriber. I promise I won't spam you.

Lastly - Yes I will have more stock available of my new Queen Vic cultivars this year! πŸ™Œ
