I will fight anyone who says candles are basic.

Candles are the single most underrated element of any event. They transform a space in a way that no lighting rig, no floral arrangement and no styling decision can replicate.

Here’s why: candlelight moves. It makes everyone in the room look like they’ve been shot by a very talented photographer. And it communicates something before a single word is spoken. It says: we prepared this for you. We thought about how you’d feel. This is not an accident.

I use candles at every event I style, sometimes dramatically, sometimes subtly. Tapers in clusters at the end of a long table. Tea lights floating in shallow bowls of water. Thick church candles on aged brass holders.

The rule: never overhead lighting alone.

Always, always candlelight.

Think the magic just happens on the day of your wedding?
Let me take you behind the scenes of how much work goes into making sure everything is perfect!

For a wedding with just 10 tables, that means:

- 30 votive candles
- 30 tea lights
- 30 pillar candles
- 80 menus
- 80 place cards
- 80 bomboniere gifts

That’s 70 trips around each table just to get the decor right. Correct, I added one more where you check that everything is done correctly!

P.S. don’t forget to straighten the wick as it takes less time to light them!

Now add coordinating the florists, catering, photographer and musicians while troubleshooting any last minute hiccups.

Here’s the fun part: when you hire a wedding coordinator, you don’t do any of this. We handle every detail while you sip champagne and get ready to say “I do.”

Let’s talk about the most underrated part of an outdoor ceremony… chair logistics.

For our ceremonies, we usually place around 20–30 chairs only. The rest of your guests naturally stand, mingle and create that relaxed atmosphere where everyone feels part of the moment rather than parked in a line.

The reserved front row is intentional: it’s for your elderly guests and your immediate family. They should sit comfortably, close to you and with a clear view. Everyone else flows around them.

It’s about creating presence, mood and the right people closest to you when you say “yes.”
