Some beautiful sports from the season. Sports are a genetic mutation and sometimes are fleeting. These were consistent all season and Bracken Palomino sport in its second season. If the sport is stable for two to three seasons it may be released with a new name.
1. Sport of Sultan, minus the stripes. Very pretty and a hit with the florists.

3. Sport of Sheila, a striking gold and apricot colour.red on the petal back giving really beautiful dimension from all angles..
4. Original Sheila.
5. Sport of Florelie Hayley, such a pretty pink. One branch of this plant produced pink all season, hopefully I can isolate that tuber for next season.
6. Sport of Bracken Palomino, a fabulous bright melon pink. Consistent for two seasons now, performs as well as the original in all ways.

These are a few of our seedlings that we will save for next season. Most are first year with 4 second year seedlings in the mix. All had something a bit special in the field when wandering past, I had to stop and take a photo. I cut back anything that I don’t like after a couple of flowers and those will be sold in our pollinator packs. Some will quickly reveal themselves to be inferior next season, but some will stabilised or may even improve and become more amazing in time.

And just like that dahlia season has come to an end. A couple of buckets to go out this week and that’s it for another season. As sad as it is when the blooms finish, it’s exciting to be planning for next seasons seedlings and lots more beauties for cut flowers… and of course, our tuber sale is coming in winter.

A huge thanks to our fabulous florists for supporting local growers. Can’t wait for next season.

Honeycomb is a lovely cheerful yellow miniature decorative dahlia, sometimes with a little gold in the centre. It’s a prolific bloomer, with the quality of blooms improving greatly with a little TLC.
