I've long been against AI in many forms, mostly in replacement of artists and creatives who provide real talent and experience in their craft. In my own work, I make every attempt to reduce my contact with AI, especially generative AI that is designed to replace said artists and creatives for a small monthly fee and a few text prompts.
I'm seeing so many local businesses lately using generative AI to replace traditional forms of advertising with graphic design and it's really quite saddening. What was once "supporting our locals" is now 18 bucks a month on ChatGPT and type a few prompts. And the really sad part is that you're paying to train another billionaires algorithm to continue stealing from the creative community anyway.
Using ChatGPT is not "victimless", it's destructive and an insult to those creatives.
Do I use AI in my work? Yes. I use AI tools built into my editing software, Davinci Resolve Studio. I use these tools to clean up audio noise, some picture noise and if I'm doing some more complex VFX stuff I rely a bit on compositing and rotoscoping tools that are AI supported. These tools do not replace someones job. These do not take away from another persons skills that they've built over years of practice to make a living from (and there aren't many folks crazy enough to want to work on cleaning up audio or video noise as a day job).
Rest assured I will refrain from including generative AI in any of my work, and will refuse any requests from clients asking me to do so. If this hurts my ability to work going forward, so be it. I respect creative folk far too much to simply replace them with AI slop. I encourage ALL local businesses to do the same.
