Hi friends… I’ve got some pretty big news to share.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
After more than ten years, the flower farm side of Little Triffids is no more. Don’t worry - Business is still blossoming as usual though with lots of gorgeous (and local!) flowers in my shop.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Just for now, the farm chapter has come to a close.
It’s hard to put into words what this tiny patch of land, nestled on the floodplains of the Murrumbidgee River, has meant to me. As I’ve been flicking back through old photos (please enjoy➡️), I’m reminded of just how much beauty, abundance, joy, heartbreak, learning and hard work was packed into this tiny but mighty patch.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The farm arrived in my life thanks to my extraordinarily generous neighbour who entrusted me with her land for a decade. From there, so many people became part of the story. Neighbours with machinery. Friends passing through who somehow ended up weeding or harvesting. The incredible team of women who have been my staff over the years. My initial business partner Beth. My parents. And most of all, my husband Tim and son Edwin, who have lived and breathed every triumph and challenge right alongside me.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It’s wild to think that hundreds of people visited this little farm over the years. They came to learn, wander amongst the flowers, attend workshops, pick bouquets and share in its abundance. It found its way into magazines, onto television screens and into countless homes and celebrations.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
When I first started my micro farm, there weren’t many of us around. I stumbled my way through, learning as I went, discovering that growing flowers in the extremes of regional Australia is a very different proposition to the idyllic farms I was seeing online in the UK and United States.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
What started as a tiny side hustle grew into something far bigger than I ever imagined. More importantly, it shaped the florist, business owner and person I am today. This land taught me resilience, patience, adaptability and how to find joy in seasons both abundant and lean.
