Winter Sweet Recipe: Spiced Pear and Almond Crumble

Winter is the perfect season for warm, spiced desserts that fill the kitchen with comforting aromas and a winter crowd favourite as crumble!

This elegant Spiced Pear and Almond Crumble is simple to make and simply perfect for family dinners, buffets, or cosy private functions.

Spiced Pear and Almond Crumble

Filling ingredients

6 ripe pears, peeled, cored, and sliced
1 tbsp lemon juice
½ cup brown sugar
1 tsp ground cinnamon
½ tsp ground nutmeg
½ tsp ground ginger
1 tsp vanilla extract

Crumble ingredients

¾ cup plain flour
½ cup rolled oats
½ cup almond meal
½ cup brown sugar
125g cold unsalted butter, cubed
½ cup flaked almonds

Method

Preheat the oven to 180°C (fan forced).

Toss filling ingredients together, coating the pears with the spices. Spread evenly into a greased baking dish.

In a bowl, combine flour, oats, almond meal, and brown sugar. Rub in butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir through flaked almonds.

Sprinkle crumble topping evenly over the pear mixture.

Bake for 35-40 minutes until the crumble topping is golden and bubbling.

Serve warm with thickened cream or vanilla bean ice cream.

90 and fabulous! 🎉

What an absolute privilege it was to recently cater Afra’s 90th birthday celebration — a beautiful celebration filled with laughter, great food, music and so much love.
