Did you know in ancient Rome and Greece white was the colour the bride wore. It had some association with the imitation of the Vestal Virgins. White was considered the colour which deterred evil spirits. In this day and age white is acceptable for all brides. We can all do without evil spirits. A bride should dress in what she feels comfortable in.

The Dowry:- What is a dowry? It is when a father pays to have his daughter married. She may be given property or money and she becomes a very attractive partner.
A shotgun marriage:- This is when a girl becomes pregnant the thr parents of the girl force the father of the baby to marry her. Time gone by the father of the girl pointed a gun at the boy responsible.

Marriage by capture:- Most likely started in the time of the cave man and I think it certainly occured well into the civilised times. As I understand women were simply hidden and stolen.
Marriage by purchase:- The family tribe or the family were given an amount of money or goods to a value and it was an agreement that the young maiden be married.

All aspects of life have symbols. Some symbols have died out, and new symbols have come in and gained favour. As marriage changes so will the symbols and customs which surround the wedding.
