Fry wraps up sweet weekend with win on Sugar Daddy
Cairns Cup winning hoop Ivo Fry capped a big 24 hours when he
stormed home on roughie Mr Sugar Daddy to win at Cluden Park on Sunday.
On a high after his runaway win aboard Choir Boy in the Cairns featur on Saturday, Fry produced another polished ride to steer Mr Sugar Daddy ($15) to a surprise win in Thank You Michelle Payne Hcp (1400m).

Tiger ready for Intruder in stablemates clash.

Trainer Tony Comerford believes there won’t be much between
stablemates Ready Tiger and Intruder when they go head-to-head at
Cluden Park on Sunday as the winter season comes to a close.
The two gallopers – both winners over the Cluden ‘mile’ - are
Comerford’s only horses in work and will line-up leading chances in the
Mitavite BM65 Hcp (1609m) .
“It’d be good if they could dead-heat,” Comerford said.
“They’re equally good chances but it all comes down to who gets the
best run.”

Young Mackay trainer Lachie Manzelmann is hoping the stable’s magic carnival run up the coast can continue on to Cairns after a “pit stop’ at Cluden Park on Tuesday.
The Manzelmann stable has been on fire over the past two months
largely through the deeds of Cups star Journalism and sprinter Red Hot Lizzie who will both line-up in Townville. Journalism will tackle the Ladbrokes Hcp (2000m) and Red Hot Lizzie will run alongside stablemate Outback Action in the Hygain Hcp (1200m) with regular jockey Adam Sewell to ride both.

What a day! The Ladbrokes Townsville Cup 2026 was one for the books, with a record 8,500 guests through the gates.

From thrilling racing and exquisite fashions to live music and entertainment, the Townsville Cup truly delivered an unforgettable day and cemented its place as the event of the season.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us throughout the Winter Racing Carnival. Your support and enthusiasm made this year’s carnival one to remember!
