Lucy 💚 Aidan

When it comes to Lucy and Aidan, the universe is playing the long game. They attended the same preschool, there are childhood photos of them sitting beside each other, family photos where one appears quietly in the background of the other’s life, they grew up around the same small communities, attended the same schools, played the same sports, and somehow life just kept nudging them back towards each other.

They dated in high school and Aidan met Lucy’s mum for the first time during that time, boldly introducing himself to Patricia after their Tuesday night mixed netball game. Somewhere around that time, Lucy also learnt one of Patricia’s golden rules for life: “Never date a boy twice.” Though Lucy would remind her, “Yeah, but you dated Dad twice,” she would simply reply, “Yes, but that’s different.” and eventually Lucy and Aidan went their separate ways and spent a few years working on themselves and their careers.

Then came Christmas of 2019. Aidan decided to stick around a little longer than usual, Lucy tried very hard not to fall for him again, and somewhere in the middle of all of that... their unofficial matchmaker, George, decided enough was enough. He wanted the family back together and subtle encouragement wasn’t really his style. Aidan invited Lucy on a trip to Brisbane. Lucy wasn’t convinced... but George again gave the final nudge. For Aidan, everything hinged on that plane ticket and he admits that if she’d said no, he was ready to quit his job, buy a one-way ticket to Canada, and disappear forever. When Lucy was getting ready to head to Brisbane with Aidan, she said to her mum, “But you always say never date a boy twice.” And without missing a beat, Patricia simply said, “Yes… but Aidan is different.” 🥰

MY FRIENDS. I’m triple posting about this delicious day but I’m not sorry. The tale of these two lovers involved a whirlwind six-ish week turnaround from their first call to me all the way from Perth to propose a grand adventure, a cross-continental video call meeting, furious emailing, a road trip to the Burdekin, a secret meeting between Sarah and I on the side of a dusty country road in the middle of nowhere, subterfuge, sleight of hand and blatant lies to unsuspecting family members …. And the most magical moment when Chad + Shannon appeared for their surprise wedding on a sunlit balcony to the gasps of their unsuspecting family. (Peep the camera around my neck in slide 3 when I was still pretending to be the “assistant photographer” and taking the roll call of family members with Shannan’s poor mum! 😂)

And Sarah I Motherhood & Family Photographer Townsville ‘s beautiful images do this day more than justice, they are just ethereal and dreamlike exactly like these humans and like this day felt.

Coworkers. Friends. Lovers. Travellers. Dreamers. Partners. Spouses. Chad & Shannon tied the knot 🪢

I was just happy to be there 🥰

In late 2025, we gathered to finally celebrate the marriage of Tara and James. A wedding that was
planned… rescheduled… re-planned… postponed… there was a baby..… declared as
“definitely happening this year”… and then not happening that year… But look at them now.
They made it. There were chairs. There was an aisle. Tara was in a dress. It was not a drill. 🥹

S I X T Y 💎

Today I had the pleasure of officiating my SIXTIETH wedding ceremony (a diamond anniversary!) and it was no less exciting and heartwarming today than it was sixty weddings ago!

This picture is not just a picture to me because it reminds me of the gratitude I feel on these days - to know that a bride hand made these many metres of bunting ripped from old sheets and to know and feel the love in the quietness of that story.

I have learned so much, met so many beautiful couples and worked with lots of amazing vendors…. No two weddings are ever the same!

I have married friends, strangers and friends of friends. Seen familiar faces in the crowd … sometimes even previous couples in the crowd watching the ceremony from a different angle!

I have seen tears and cried them. Made people laugh and laughed myself. I have been in the rain, on the beach, at kitchen tables, in the bush, under the stars and watching the sun rise.

Flowers of every colour imaginable. A rainbow of dresses and suit jackets. Children, dogs, snakes, chickens, bees, horses, kangaroos and cows here and there.

I’ve smoothed over arguments, panic attacks, bow ties, disappointments, grief, boutonnières, hangovers, crinkled fabric and shaking hands.

Blood, sweat, tears and everything in between. Oh my heart, what an adventure it has been. ❤️
