What if the event isn’t the destination?
What if it’s the prototype?
We spend a lot of time designing events.
The site.
The programme.
The experience.
The big moment.
Then the event ends.
The lights come down.
The barriers disappear.
The trucks leave.
But sometimes, something much more interesting has happened.
A laneway that people suddenly see differently.
A waterfront that becomes somewhere to spend an evening.
A public space that proves people actually want to gather there.
A local business discovering a new audience.
Artists, businesses, community and government finding new reasons to work together.
That’s when an event becomes more than an event.
It becomes a test.
A way of showing what a place could be.
And that’s the bit we find fascinating at The Global Alchemy.
Because temporary doesn’t have to mean disposable.
A temporary experience can reveal permanent possibilities.
It can give a city evidence rather than assumptions.
Instead of asking:
“How many people came?”
Perhaps we should also ask:
“What became possible because they came?”
Maybe the event isn’t the finished product.
Maybe it’s the prototype for what comes next.
