The only post-production in these was a little colour-balancing and taming a few stray hairs - the rest is as real as it happens...💕🥰

Celebrating the recent NZIPP - the New Zealand Institute of Professional Photography Iris Awards - Finalist for the NZIPP Australian Family Photographer of the Year.

This year the time limit for entries was removed, presenting an opportunity to enter work created outside the 2 year time limit. It was so lovely to see this print relived again - it has always been one of my favourites. It received a Gold Distinction which is a huge honour!

Storytelling is the centre of this triptych - the different relationships between all the siblings and their support of each other - in the top frame the eldest three are all showing their youngest sister how to jump, in the second, she is just doing her own thing - what every three year old does in a shoot, and in the third she is doing her best to copy her brother!

The best way to create a story is to let the kids do their own thing with a few fun suggestions and encouragement from their Mum and Dad as we went along. The hardest part was getting them to wrap when it was time to leave!!

Introducing JETT...
This black-faced, white caped bundle of sweetness might appear to be a 6 month old Tenterfield Terrier...BUT best not to judge books by their cover!

He is in fact an eclectic mix of party-popper, springbok and affectionate cuddle monkey; well-disguised in 5kgs of velvety-soft puppy hair and needle-sharp teeth. He has exceptional ninja stealth skills, can appear silently out of nowhere and just as swiftly vapourises under the covers at bedtime, folds faster than a Rubik's Magic puzzle into a mouse-sized ball and lies motionless quieter than an inaudible whisper!...
..Until 6am when he explodes out of bed like a crazed firework💥💥!!

Our sweet 16 year old Amber loves snuggling with him and snoring the day away and in the afternoons is blissfully happy to poke around the park with him. She'd quite like him to have a mouthguard to protect her from those needle-fangs when tries to wrestle her back legs though, and is quick to put him in his place!

There is nothing that can replace our beautiful Haurace boy; 17.5 years of handsome gentleman has etched deeply into our hearts and life journeys, but we firmly know he would approve of this snuggly firecracker; perhaps almost a mirror image of his younger puppy self.

Jett was surrendered during the terrible floods in Taree as an 8 week old puppy. Sight unseen, and still reeling after losing our Haurace, we followed a gut feel and drove a 600km round trip to meet him at in Forster, not knowing if Amber would approve and if he would be a fit for our family. Turns out, it's ok to trust your gut; Jett's settling in fast and has quickly weaved his way into our hearts and is etching his own story into our family.

The 2025 NZIPP Iris Awards have wrapped and now I’m swimming in a pond with these amazing big fish and finalist in Family and Creative.

Huge congratulations to Images by Anderson, Jo Howell Photography and Katie and Jeremy of Heartstory Photography. I feel like I don’t really fit in with the crazy talent and skill these incredible folks have but I’ll pretend I’m up there with them for the few moments we’ll share the virtual podium!

I’ve never had results this good with 2x Gold Distinctions, 1x Gold, 1x Silver Distinction plus 4x Bronzes.
