You wouldn’t buy a house or a car without knowing exactly what you’re getting into, right?

The same holds true for a wedding. A wedding is a significant financial undertaking, and wedding contracts ensure you know exactly what you’re getting, when and how you’ll pay for it, and, perhaps most importantly, what happens if those services aren’t able to be delivered in full. So don’t sign on the dotted line without spending some time with the pages.

As elementary as it sounds, read the contract. This is a really big investment. You shouldn’t throw 10 or 15 thousand dollars at something without knowing what’s going on and this just adds up on the wedding budget overall.

Wedding planning can often feel like it’s all romance and butterflies, but, at the end of the day, working with a vendor is a business transaction-and it’s crucial to ensure the components of that transaction are clear to both sides. A contract makes sure everyone is on the same page. It also protects both parties from potential issues.

💡 8 Tips to Make Your Styling Work With Your Venue (Not Against It)

1️⃣ Visit your venue at the same time of day your wedding will be — see the lighting, shadows, and vibe in real conditions.

2️⃣ Ask your planner or stylist what scale of arrangements will suit the ceiling height and room size.

3️⃣ Consider how the architecture or marquee structure will frame your ceremony and reception moments.

4️⃣ Choose colour palettes that complement the venue’s walls, flooring, and backdrop — not fight with them.

5️⃣ Think about focal points in the room and design around them, rather than scattering décor everywhere.

6️⃣ Use lighting to highlight features of the venue or your styling — not just as a practical afterthought.

7️⃣ Match the formality of your styling to the formality of the venue — consistency is luxury.

8️⃣ Trust your stylist or planner to adapt ideas you’ve seen online so they translate beautifully in your space.

𝐑𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐰𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐭 𝐰𝐞𝐝𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬?

Why do we throw a hail of tiny white rice grains at the newly married couple as they make their way from the ceremony?

The answer is three-fold. Rice or Grains symbolise fertility and are a symbol of prosperity & The wish was for the couple to have a family, and if your fields had a lot of grain growing in them, you were prosperous.

What Is the Rice Toss? 🌾

The rice toss is a symbolic wish to the just-married couple for a life of prosperity and fruitfulness, which to the ancients meant many children.

As a blessing, guests shower the couple with rice as they exit the ceremony.

When does the rice toss take place?
There are two times in the wedding day that a throw or toss might happen:
1. Recessing from the ceremony down the aisle by the couple or
2. the grand exit as they leave the reception.

At modern weddings, the rice throw is usually done following the ceremony and not generally used for the grand exit after the reception 🫶🏽

Couples are often dissatisfied with repeat look a like wedding receptions and a lack of professionalism for what is such a massive financial investment and supposed to be a beautiful celebration for couples 💍

In some modern Chinese weddings, the tea ceremony remains one of the most significant traditions, where the newlyweds show their respect to the elders in their families, and they in turn show their acceptance of the marriage
In Chinese, the expression “drinking a daughter-in-law’s tea” - which references the tea ceremony- often represents a wedding, which goes to show just how important this tradition is to this day.

The couple, often dressed in traditional wedding garments (the qun kwa for the bride, in particular), will kneel before their elders and serve them tea, with the help of attendants (usually bridesmaids). The parents and in-laws are the key recipients, and sometimes other relatives such as grandparents, aunts and uncles will also take part

The Chinese tea ceremony is conducted on the day of the wedding and sees the bride and groom serve tea to their parents, in-laws, and other family members. Symbolising the union of two families, it is a meaningful part of the day, typically taking place inside the couple’s respective family homes.

Red Flags to always look out for

With the exception of finding a partner whose life seamlessly blends into yours, the hardest part of the wedding planning process is finding the perfect venue that fits your vision. Not only can the location set the groundwork for your big day’s logistics—the date, budget, and number of guests, to name a few-but it will also inform the overall
vibe of your celebration.

Bohemian by the beach? Rustic farmhouse? Luxe garden party? The choice is yours—and, of course,
your venue.

But, before you get swept up in a space’s potential and photogenic moments, it’s a good idea to keep an eye out for potential red flags: factors that aren’t initially a dealbreaker, but might cause more problems down the road.

The devil is in the details, so you have to be mindful of venue red flags—even if it’s a minor one. A small flag can turn into a logistical nightmare and a disappointed couple very quickly!
It’s no secret that spotting a red flag during a venue tour is frustrating- especially when the location is otherwise perfect. However, doesn’t necessarily have to be a dealbreaker. In fact, it can actually offer some room for negotiation.
