Announcement from Wizards of Q
Before I start, I want to make it clear that my disappointment is at how unprofessional the ABA have been this week - This is not about my competitors I have had to compete against.
The ABA have decided to take away our win, off the back of some complaints they have received.
The ABA have a set of rules/T&Cs that they must abide by, and they have chosen to turn a blind eye to them, against consumer law.
On Wednesday I received a phone call Michael Rose to advise that Jason the head judge has been stood down and there is protest to overturn his decision. Noting ‘an admin error’
Below is the email I sent to both Adam Roberts and Michael Rose that should explain our views;
“Hi All,
I just received a phone call this afternoon from Rosey advising that a impending decision by the ABA is going to be made in relation to my beef rib box from Smoke in Broke on the weekend. For the purpose of clarity I thought I would send you all a message.
It’s quite clear by the judges score card that something unusual happened with my beef rib box. I have been informed by Rosy that a string was found in the box, which is possible and I’m not here to deny string being in the box, albeit a minor error either way.
Jason was the head judge on the day and made a decision to penalise one portion as per the rules at his own discretion. I refer to the following extracts from the ABA Rules;
“Boxed Entry Penalties
Excessive/intentional pooling sauce
Incorrect or unapproved garnish
Foreign object found in box
Handing in less than minimum portion size/quantity
NOTE: All infractions are determined by the ABA Head Judge on site at the event whose decision is final. See scorecard for guide on points deducted.”
“19. The ABA Head Judge will be the sole arbitrator of any dispute and their decision on site at the competition will be final in all cases with no further correspondence entered into by the ABA.”
Applying these rules to the fact that the head judge made a call on site on the day mean that his call in relation to a minor infraction is final, and in no circumstance should any further correspondence from the ABA be required, irrespective of the usual fan fair the bbq community has made in relation to an matter.
Hope you can appreciate this GC means a lot to me, and my team mates and I hope you will do the right thing.
Look forward to hearing from you guys”
This will draw a close to competition bbq with the ABA, but I wanted to take the opportunity to thank everyone for the friendships and memories I have made along the way!
Peace 👊🏿
