Balmy wedding late last year at Lion Gate Lodge (sorry no photos of the eponymous statue by the *other* gate) Couple ended up squeezing in an additional 40 minutes overtime (I needed the other 20 to bump out before curfew 😮‍💨) Many thanks to Penny and team

Garden and marquee wedding all the way out at with .steg + ._ handling ceremony through to First Dance. Wedding couple wanted a wiiide range of music from John Summit, Hayden James and Sgt Slick to Justin Bieber and Alan Jackson (for grandpa) Extra special thanks to Sarah for the bottle of plonk at the end of the night!

Wedding Entered and finished with AC/DC, Def Leppard for the cake, a surprise electric guitar solo by the groom during the first dance and Metallica, Foo Fighters, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, 90’s alt rock that filled the dfloor!

With all the headlines and bite sized reports of the good news, as someone directly affected, I couldn’t help but notice the various outlets failing to even mention the overwhelming negative impact the lockout laws had. This article doesn’t hold back, explaining much of the sabotage the lockout laws turned out to be.

Too little too late?

Twelve years since they were first announced, Sydney’s lockout laws have been officially consigned to history.

On 21 January 2026, the Minns Labor Government repealed the final major restrictions that have hung over the city’s nightlife like a shroud since 2014, removing the 3:30am last drinks rule, mandated plastic cups, RSA marshals for certain venues, and blanket drink limits. It’s a moment worth marking, even if the celebration feels muted by the reality of what was lost along the way.
