For more than four decades, our annual Choy Lee Fut Parade Day has filled the streets of Chinatown with the beat of the drum and our vibrant lions, a tradition proudly upheld by Chan Family Choy Lee Fut!

This reel is a glimpse of last year’s energy!
The movement, the rhythm, the community spirit. Non-stop lion dance.
Drums echoing through the streets.
And now… it’s almost time again.

📍 Sunday 22 February
📍 Starting at the corner of Goulburn & Sussex Street
⏰ 11:00am – 4:00pm (non-stop through Chinatown)

From the first drumbeat to the final salute, we’ll be moving through the streets bringing blessings, strength and celebration to the community.

This isn’t a stage performance. It’s a living tradition shared block by block, lion by lion.

If you’ve never experienced Parade Day before, this is the one to see.

If you’ve come before, you already know the feeling.

Mark the date.
Bring your friends.
Follow the drums. 🥁🧧

🔥 Kung Fu in the heart of Chatswood 🔥

Yesterday we brought the energy to Chatswood Interchange with a series of traditional kung fu demonstrations showcasing the strength, discipline and spirit behind everything we do.

From powerful hand forms to explosive weapon sequences, every movement reflects years of training, structure and respect for lineage.

For us, demonstrations aren’t about flash. They’re about preserving and sharing authentic martial arts, the foundation that also shapes our lion dance. The same horse stance. The same power generation. The same discipline.

Thank you to everyone who stopped to watch, cheer us on and support traditional kung fu in action.

This is more than performance.

This is culture. This is training. This is legacy.

One of the most powerful moments in a traditional Southern lion dance is the Choi Cheng (採青) ceremony. 🥬🦁🧧

In Cantonese, “Choi” (菜) means greens, and sounds like “Choi” (財) meaning wealth. The lettuce offered to the lion symbolises prosperity and abundance.

When the lion “eats” the lettuce and then scatters the leaves, it is not random or playful, it is a blessing. The lion is spreading good fortune, success and positive energy to the business, family or community.

You’ll notice the lion does not rush.
It observes.
It tests.
It approaches with intention.
Every step follows traditional protocol.

The ritual represents effort before reward, respect before receiving, and prosperity that is earned and shared.

Choi Chang is not just entertainment.
It is tradition.
It is symbolism.
It is blessing in motion.

Next time you see the lion reach for the greens, know you’re witnessing a centuries-old Southern Chinese ritual performed with meaning and purpose. Getting your hands a piece of lettuce, is like getting a share of the good luck! 🧧

🦁 What Makes Our Lion Dance Team Different 🦁

Lion dance is not just what we do. It’s who we are.
As part of Chan Family Choy Lee Fut Kung Fu & Qigong HQ, our lion dance is deeply rooted in traditional Chinese martial arts.

Every movement you see reflects that foundation, strong horse stances, controlled footwork, explosive power, precision timing.

Ours is a martial lion.

You’ll notice the difference in the way the lion steps, bows, advances and retreats.

The structure, the stance work, the intent behind the eyes and head movements, all of it comes from kung fu training.

It is not choreography for entertainment. It is discipline, conditioning and tradition brought to life.

We also follow traditional protocols and feng shui principles. There is a reason behind every sequence in a performance:
• The way the lion enters a space
• The way it approaches the offering
• The way it “eats the lettuce”
• The way it blesses a space or business

Each step carries meaning, for prosperity, protection, good fortune and respect.

For us, lion dance is not just noise and colour. It is culture.
It is blessing.
It is responsibility.

When we perform, we are honouring generations before us and representing our school, our teachers and our lineage.

That’s the Choy Lee Fut lion dance difference.

Drums echoing,
