"I RECEIVED another reminder that life is certainly changing around me on the weekend.

Great friends of my wife invited us to attend the wedding of their son on Saturday in Brisbane.

Having been to as many weddings as I have toes and fingers I wasn't falling over with enthusiasm.

I was foreseeing a long boring ceremony and a dreary reception where everyone got up to speak.

How wrong I was. It was without doubt the best wedding I have ever attended. I should have known things would be a little different when my wife showed me the invitation for the wedding some months ago.

The invite stuck to the back of an old vinyl record said to get prepared for a rockabilly wedding.

If I didn't know what rockabilly is then, I certainly do know. The marriage celebrant turned out to be Elvis impersonator Dean Vegas and he sung his way through the ceremony with the entire congregation getting involved.

The reception continued the theme and I soon realised that this wasn't a wedding - it was a party.

I am told this is the way of the future as formalities and white bridal dresses costing thousands get thrown out the window. The youngsters no longer want to fall into line by adhering to the staid wedding principles we grew up with.

It's a fabulous idea and one that my daughter has already embraced.

I just hope she likes Johnny Cash."
