WEDDING DRESS SHOPPING EXPERIENCE!!
Unfortunately, the most terrible thing happened to me a few weeks ago.
I made an enquiry with a dress maker regarding a dress she was advertising that she stocked (international designer). She told me the price was $7,500. I made an appointment to see her as my mum was leaving to overseas that same weekend for 3 months and I really had to lock in a design whilst I had my mum's opinion available to me!
Anyway, I headed over to her store in less-than ordinary clothes and was treated with less-than ordinary respect.
Immediately I was rushed in and she began to rattle off prices of dresses which I hadn't even enquired about. She asked to see my engagement ring? (note: it was at the jewellers getting re-sized). When I told her I didn't have it on me, she rolled her eyes dismissively, as if I were telling a lie!
She spoke to me very condescendingly, insinuating I could not afford her dresses. What's worse, is the dress I initially enquired about had shot up to "starting from $10,000". I couldn't understand why the price had risen, but I loved the dress very much and was happy to pay this price. I still wanted to try it on. After talking with her for almost 40 minutes, I asked if I could try it on.
The woman looked at me (up & down) and said "honey, it's a size 8!"
Shocked at how rude this woman was acting towards me, I confirmed that I was a size 8, and even if the dress was a small make all I wanted to do was step into the dress. She continued to patronize me and finally put her hands on her knees and got close to my face before slowly saying "it... will.. not.. fit.. you!".
At this point, I was gathering my belongings, ready to leave. She then told me I would be better suited to shopping around for a dresses below the $2,000 mark. Thankfully, my mother graciously ushered me out of the shop before things turned ugly.
I do not understand how insensitive and obnoxious businesses like this survive in an industry full of emotional brides!
Since then, I have booked in with the designer I always wanted (stay tuned for details!)... and spent more than I initially intended .
Sooooo, If you're on the hunt for a wedding gown and DO NOT want to run into this witch, comment below or inbox me the designers or stores you are booking consultations with... I will reply with my comments accordingly.
