We’ve all spent years valuing IQ and EQ (Emotional Intelligence) in our teams and classrooms — and rightly so. Smarts and empathy are essential.

But the biggest challenge we all face is change. IQ and EQ aren’t enough to navigate constant evolution.

Enter CQ—Creative Intelligence.

It’s the framework that helps us think sideways, imagine new possibilities, and adapt with real purpose. This isn’t about being an "artist"; it's about being effective, resilient, and ready for what's next. It’s what transforms routine teaching into powerful pedagogical approaches and everyday team collaboration into innovation.

The best bit? It’s a buildable skill, not a magic talent.

Creativity isn't a battery—where if we draw from it too much, it’ll run flat.
It's exactly the opposite.

When you challenge your team to think sideways, solve complex problems, and navigate ambiguity, you aren’t draining their tank. You’re actually expanding their capacity.

Every time a teacher designs a fresh pedagogical approach or a leader tackles a workplace hurdle with a bit of imagination, they are building their Creative Intelligence.

We asked students what they want. They said: "Schools that feel creative, inclusive, and human."
When we listen to their voices, we can shape an education they'll thrive in.

How are you bringing student voice into your planning?

Leaders and educators are looking for professional learning that is relevant, innovative and practical.

That’s why The Brightspace was founded. We are here to support leaders and teams to grow through creativity, connection, and purpose.

How? We blend creative intelligence with practical systems thinking and team development.
We don't just teach theory; we provide a toolkit that educators can use immediately to enhance their pedagogical approaches.

We want you to do your best work, and we know that starts with professional learning that is designed with respect for your time, your expertise, and your impact.

2 great days at EDUtech, Sydney!
Wonderful to see expo seminars dedicated to Creative & Critical Thinking - so many powerful presentations and conversations around this, as well as AI and the future of education.

One takeaway we loved:
“Technology is an amplifier of pedagogical practice.”

This tells us the magic still comes from people 💛
Connection, creativity, relationships and intentional teaching still matter most.

Left inspired, challenged and excited about where education is heading.

Awesome to connect with the Google for Education team too!

We track literacy and numeracy gaps like hawks.
But the creativity gap?
It’s the silent crisis.

You can’t adapt to a changing world without it — and yet it’s the first thing squeezed out of the timetable.

In 2023, 63% of Australian teachers were aged over 40. That’s a massive amount of experience in our schools.

But it’s worth asking:
Are we truly building decades of distinct, evolving experience?
Or are we sometimes repeating a few great years over and over?

Teachers are some of the most dedicated people we know, but we need to think about how we are inspiring their growth.

When we lean into creative intelligence, every year becomes a fresh discovery rather than a repeat.

It doesn’t just help our students; it’s the best way to fuel our professional wellbeing.

How are you keeping things fresh in your classroom this year?

Creative intelligence is a survival skill in a world that’s constantly changing.

From climate change to AI, the future belongs to the curious, the adaptive, the problem-solvers.
Yet we still teach as though the answers are at the back of the book.

Creative intelligence teaches how to find the answer when there is no back of the book.

What future skills are you building in your students?

Michelle recently had the pleasure of hosting a Skill Swap session for the community. It was a fast-paced, bite-sized look at Creative Intelligence, shared with professionals from a huge range of industries across Australia and New Zealand.

Training online always brings a unique set of challenges—especially when the goal is to inspire deep interaction and sideways thinking through a screen.

But it was a fantastic reminder that when you provide the right tools, the distance doesn't matter.

It was a condensed version of our full modules, but the energy was high and the insights were sharp.

A huge thanks to the WOTSO crew for having us!

The biggest lesson we've learned from 20 years in the education sector.

We don't lose staff because the work is hard. We lose staff because the work has become uninspired.

Our job as leaders is simple: Give teams the creative thinking opportunities and tools, freedom to solve real problems and reconnect with their purpose.

That's the best retention strategy there is.
