Not enough time in Bialystok…. Fortunately I left something behind which means we shall be back.

It was wonderful to reconnect with my number 1 cousin Asta Piech and her family. As children we would write and send letters to each other between Australia and Lithuania. We have not hugged each other in person for around 30 years, yet being together again was like yesterday. Asta is so special in my heart.

Phil and Nate laughed so hard this morning telling me how alike Asta and I am, how much we have in common is just wonderful. My cousin sews beautiful things, my cousin loves fibres - her Suri Alpaca is just wow. My cousin cooks, preserves, collects silk from thrift shops and makes exceptional liquors and jams from her produce. Not to mention just like me she has a wonderful husband and family. I am in awe of her.

We laughed in the Hammam, watched our husbands stand in the snow at ridiculous temperatures after running out of sauna in felt hats and were spoilt with Asta’s cooking and hospitality.

Two nights not enough!!!

We were super lucky to have Patrycja Piech be our tour guide and drinking the most heavenly hot chocolate ever. I am still visiting every Wedel trying to find some to bring home. Nothing is as special as good quality hot chocolate.

I am smarter for learning szczypce, and Asta now knows scissors. Good exchange of words.

Thank you Asta for our time together I love you cousin.

Farewell Central North Eastern Europe (location courtesy Nate). Lapland has not wanted to let us go holding us in Ivalo airport for 10 hours with winds so strong they literally blew a sitting plane off the runway.

While many complained and blamed the airlines we were quite happy that Finnair chose not to fly and have us ending up on the tundra in remote Lapland. Wise decision to wait till Mother Nature calmed enough to allow the expert Finnish pilots navigate stormy skies. Two planes at another airport also blown off the runway. In times like these I am more than happy to defer judgement to the experts and experience a little discomfort rather than the possible outcome of a stupid risky decision. Oddly people blame the plane companies rather than thinking when the wind and ice is sandblasting the tarmac it just may be out of the control of said companies.

Fortunately we flew out midnight back to Helsinki where we are about to board a ferry to the Baltics. A new stage of our adventure which is promising to be a hoot seeing the locals with their trolleys ready in anticipation to hop off at Estonia, stock up on cheap vodka and head back over the pond to Helsinki while we continue to Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania.

The one thing Nate really wanted to do in Utsjoki was a tour to the Arctic Ocean. Why I wondered as I am sure you are too.

Well… Nate wanted to see visit Norway, visit Fjords, see the Arctic Ocean, seeing Sami and Norwegian nature, visit the most northern point of Finland and the EU and learn more about Sami culture. All in the space of 6 hours and on Boxing Day.

We tried a few companies but only one company stood up to the challenge- again superstar Petra from who took Nate’s wish list and created a private tour that Phil and I gate crashed as we figured Nate always comes up with a couple incredible experiences.

So Boxing Day saw us on the Tundra of Norway laughing our heads off in winds so strong we were literally blown down the road. Tundra that is traditional reindeer grazing lands, touching the most Northern part of the EU, visiting the incredible Varangerfjorden, learning about the Sami culture and importantly getting a Grillpølse and Kvikk (Norwegian hotdog and local version of kitkat) all in the comfort of an all wheel drive Audi which handled the icy roads like a pro.

Another incredible Lapland experience. Thank you Petra!

Christmas Eve we were lucky enough to have a tour of a Sami Reindeer farm with superstar Petra from Travel Utsjoki. Petra took us to her reindeer farm where she taught us about reindeer and the importance of reindeer herding in the Sami culture on their indigenous homeland.

These beautiful creatures are farmed by Sami families in the wild where the reindeer roam the tundra eating lichen in winter. Our experience was as close to real as possible as these animals are meant to be wild or domesticsted so they do not loose their natural instincts of protecting themselves from predators.

Very special Christmas Eve, and one where we really learnt about these creatures rather than watching them in movies.

Hello my loves! I have been a very busy lady the last few months and am off for 6 weeks in Europe next week. Next year will bring lots and lots of silky wonders.

Before I jet off I thought I would offer a few sets of fans yet unseen to any of you wanting a last minute fan set in 2025. These will only be offered for a few days only due to my timing, please message me if you are interested.

These are currently not standard colours, more experiments to lead to new colour styles to be launched 2026. Some are yet unnamed, so let me know which one you are wanting to be put aside.

All are standard sized fan sets - the brown to yellows is a longer set.

Contact me asap as my timeframe to post silks is but a few days. Utsjoki Finland is calling my name.
