Wow, I can't believe that it was 15 years ago that I conducted my first ceremony! I remember the nerves as I walked out in front of 80 guests - family and friends looking to me to guide the couple into their married life together. And even more nerve-racking was that the couple were two close friends of mine so I really didn't want to let them down. But I didn't yay! 🎉 It was a stunning day in the sunshine on the Brisbane Waters and a day I will never forget.

And that was the start of 15 years of supporting couples to create bespoke and personal wedding ceremonies, guiding them during moments of emotion, and ensuring that everything they envisaged for their wedding ceremony came to life. I've conducted weddings in parks, boats, private gardens, large venues, beaches and backyards - but I think the most memorable venue was a huge cruise ship where I had a constant fear that the ship would take off and I would be heading out into the ocean on an unexpected holiday 😂

Thank you to every single couple of gave me their trust and allowed me to be part of their special day 💖

Recently, a friend of mine told me that they have booked a wedding planner – super exciting! But when I asked them what the difference was between what the venue was going to provide and what the wedding planner was going to provide, there was a bit of a pause.

My advice to couples is simple as always:

➡️ Be clear about what you want: Make sure that you know what want in terms of theme, look and feel, entertainment, and experience before you explore suppliers

➡️ Ask your venue what they provide: Once you have your ideas clearly outlined take them to your venue and ask what they can provide from your list as you may not need external support but also, they may not be able to deliver the experience that you would like. If you check in with the venue first, then you will know who can support you for which part of your wedding vision

➡️ Consider your budget: Make sure that you know how much you have to spend so that you can use your funds wisely

Creating your dream wedding can absolutely be brought to life by a wedding planner – they are experts in their field and know how to make your day exactly how you envisage it. But if you have a budget to watch then make sure that you check in with your venue as to what they can provide and assess what you can do by yourself.
