Not every couple needs a wedding planner, and I’ll be the first to say it.

Twenty people in a backyard, one long table, someone’s playlist on a speaker. That can be perfect exactly as it is.

The couples who reach out to me usually do it at a very specific moment: when the inbox stops being exciting and starts being a second job. Deliveries that need someone on site. Suppliers who all need the same information. A timeline that only exists in your head, and a best friend who really just wants to be a guest.

That’s the point where handing it over changes everything, and it doesn’t have to be full planning. Sometimes partial planning or even coordination in the final weeks is all it takes.

Six weddings. That was the quiet season.

Besides those, I was walking venues for couples marrying this spring and summer. Building timelines for dates that were still months out. Reviewing contracts...

Winter in Sydney is the quiet season for weddings. It was never the quiet season for wedding planning.

Nineteen more before the year closes. Every single one of them was built during the months you didn’t see.

That’s the thing about this job: the season you’re watching is always the one we finished planning months ago.

So if you’re marrying in 2027 and thinking “we’ve got ages”, the couples who ended up with the best of everything started exactly where you are right now.

The couples I work best with all want the same thing: to actually be at their own wedding.

Not answering supplier questions during cocktail hour. Not watching the clock. Not being the person everyone finds when something needs a decision.

That takes months of quiet work before the day. Vendor calls, contracts, floor plans, a run sheet so detailed that nobody has to ask you or your mum anything. By the time you walk in, every decision has already been made, together, long before it becomes urgent.

After 85+ weddings, I can tell you the difference is obvious. You can see it on a bride’s face when she knows nothing is her problem anymore.

Ten years from now, your wedding will mostly exist as photographs.

That’s not a sad thought, it’s just true, and it should change how carefully you choose the person holding the camera.

Most couples pick a photographer on the strength of a highlight reel, which is a bit like choosing a restaurant by the photo out the front.
