Having just arrived in Split Croatia 🇭🇷 to witness not one but three road blocks. Not for anything dramatic 🎭 quite the contrary…..For celebration 🥳
Stopping by the side of the road is a popular Croatian wedding 💒 tradition, specifically as part of the lively, moving celebration 🙌 where the wedding 🎉(the svatovi) drives in a convoy of honking cars 🚙 While driving in convoy, the entourage will pull over and make stops at the homes of key family members 💖such as aunts, uncles, and grandparents. During these pit stops: Hospitality: Family members wait outside their homes and offer food and fruit 🍇 spirits (usually rakija) to the guests in their cars 🚗 Procession Expansion: After the quick toast 🍸 and celebration, the relatives will then join the convoy and continue the journey together. Roadblocks: In some traditional areas, families might even playfully block 🛑 the roads with ropes or tables to negotiate passage or extract small “tolls” from the wedding party 🎉 before letting them pass. Classic Croatia 🇭🇷 Let the weddings begin 🙌
