Last night saw the official opening of the Woady Yaloak Recreation Reserve's brand new netball/tennis court rebuild and lighting upgrade.

It is a somewhat bittersweet moment, considering the outcome of the BFNL vote that saw the Warriors unable to field football and netball in 2026.

That said, the Committee of Management are pleased to see the continuation of junior netball training at the reserve thanks to the new Sunday matches delivered by Netball Victoria.

It was lovely to see nearly 100 young people training at the reserve on Tuesday night, while Talbot FC trained under the lights on the oval, and Golden Plains Pickleball played matches in the Stadium.

The future of the reserve is bright, and we are grateful to all of the people who made these upgrades happen.

We will continue to explore opportunities for the new works to be further utilised by the community, and welcome any enquiries or suggestions for future usage.

♻️ COMMUNITY E-WASTE DROP-OFF EVENTS ♻️

Did you know that e-waste is one of the fastest-growing waste streams in Victoria? Items like old computers, TVs, cords, batteries and small electronics should never go in your kerbside bin; not only is it illegal in Victoria, but it can also create serious environmental and fire risks.

To help residents safely dispose of unwanted electronics, Golden Plains Shire Council is running two FREE community e-waste drop-off events.

Smythesdale Pétanque Club will be at Rec Fest TOMORROW!

10am - 12pm: Watch a demonstration of petanque out the front of the East entrance. Learn how the game is played and chat with members about joining the club.

Smythesdale Pétanque Club is a small community club that plays the originally French sport of Pétanque on Wednesdays and Fridays from 2 pm at the Woady Yaloak Rec Reserve. Pétanque is similar to Bocce or Bowls but played on gravel with metal balls. It’s suitable for all ages and abilities.

Golden Plains Central Soccer Club (GPCSC) are a not-for-profit club based at the Cape Clear Recreation Reserve, 11 Recreation Rd, Cape Clear.
