Today we had the privilege of visiting the “She Matters” Wall in Ballarat, and it was both a chilling and deeply moving experience.
Standing before the wall and seeing the faces of so many women whose lives have been taken through violence over the past few years was heartbreaking. Every photo represents a beautiful life lost, a family forever changed, and a reminder that we must never stop talking about violence against women.
It was an honour to meet Sherele Moody, founder of the Red Heart Movement❤️Sherele has created this powerful and confronting memorial to ensure these women are remembered and that their stories continue to drive awareness and change. This wall captures only a few years of lives lost here in Australia 🇦🇺 minus the two lives lost this week which are yet to be added. The number of women represented is truly terrifying.
The Red Heart Movement does extraordinary work supporting families after the homicide of a loved one. From navigating the legal system, police and dealing with the media to connecting families with counselling and other vital resources, their support is invaluable during the most devastating time imaginable.
