🎉 Flying Colour – A Community Flag Project 🎉

What began as a simple idea to bring people together through creativity has become something truly special.

Over the past six weeks, participants in our Flying Colour project have worked alongside artists Kalyna Micenko and Bob Daly to design and create a series of vibrant appliqué flags celebrating the spirit, stories and diversity of Bower Cottages Community Centre.

Yesterday, we proudly celebrated the project's completion with a wonderful launch event. Community members shared their beautiful flag designs and the stories and meanings behind them, followed by a morning tea, a colourful participant parade, and the installation of the flags at the front of Bower Cottages.

The finished flags are much more than colourful artworks. They reflect the many ways people experience and connect with our community. Some designs celebrate activities that take place at Bower Cottages, including art, composting, mahjong and sewing, while others express the values that make this place so special – friendship, belonging, inclusion and feeling welcome.

A heartfelt thank you to our incredible artists, Kalyna Micenko and Bob Daly from SpinFX AustrAliA. Your experience, guidance, creativity and generosity have shaped this project in such a meaningful way and helped bring everyone's ideas to life.

And to all of our participants – thank you. Your ideas, enthusiasm, openness and willingness to have a go are what made Flying Colour such a success. Every flag tells a story, and together they create a vibrant celebration of our community.

Learn to Sew - Make a tote bag.
Join us for this beginner's, hands on sewing workshop, led by the Bower Bird Quilters Group.
In this relaxed and supportive session, you’ll learn the basics of using a sewing machine while creating your very own tote bag to take home. From threading the machine to stitching straight seams and finishing your bag, you’ll gain practical skills you can build on.
No experience needed and all materials provided —just bring your curiosity and creativity.

We’re excited to welcome our neighbours from Goodstart Early Learning Semaphore Park to our playgroup for some hands-on sensory fun!

Each week, they’ll bring a new activity for families to enjoy alongside all the usual playgroup fun, connection, and community.

Thank you to everyone who attended today's Biggest Morning Tea, organised by the incredible women from the Bower Cottages Breast Cancer Support Group.

Seeing more than 100 people come together — sharing stories, laughter, and plenty of delicious treats — was something really special. Thanks to your generosity, we raised over $3,280 for Cancer Council Australia. A special thank you to all the groups, individuals and local businesses who donated items, baked goods and helped make the event such a success.

We still have spaces available at tomorrow's Bower Cottages Epilepsy Awareness Session. Facilitated by a specialist Registered Nurse from the Epilepsy Centre, this session will offer valuable insights into epilepsy and how we can better support those affected.

What you’ll learn:
Understanding epilepsy: myths vs facts
Recognising different types of seizures
Practical first aid and how to respond safely
Ongoing management and support strategies
