My background was in the health industry as a Registered Nurse/Midwife for 17 years. Deciding on a change, I chose floristry as it was totally opposite of what I had been doing. I completed my Certificate 3 in 2007 in Perth. I was lucky to work at a wonderful Floral design shop with great mentors who were talented, patient and great teachers. Learning the value of customer service
being as important as the designs you put out. In 2008 my family had the amazing opportunity through my husbands work to relocate to Shanghai, China and we called it home for 6 years.This gave me the chance to set up a studio at home to create floral designs for the local expat community and I was able to embrace my own style. Having experience with so many different cultures proved for a wonderful challenge. Not many foreigners ventured out to the local flower market, but I loved it. It gave me the chance to source the flowers that I wanted and to use my very basic Mandarin to ask for what I wanted and bargain for the best price. Hua Girl came about from my connection with the place where I felt I grew as a floral designer. Hua means flower in Mandarin and is pronounce 'WHAH.' I pride myself on wanting to provide a boutique service for the client .
