The Schoolhouse, Rosny Farm

In Renewable, Caitlin Fargher brings together clay and minerals sourced from the dammed rivers of lutruwita/Tasmania with recycled metal, salvaged materials and low-cost technologies powered by wind, water and sun.

With thanks to Poatina Arts (a significant site in Tasmania’s Hydroelectric history), initial sculptures made during Residency in November 2024

It's a ruff job, but someone's gotta do it.

We're thrilled to announce internationally renowned local artist Amanda Davies as the judge for this year's Poochibald™ Art Prize!

Entries are now closed and we’ve received another bumper crop across our Junior Child, Senior Child and Adult categories, Amanda certainly has her work cut out for her.

Winners will be announced at the Official Opening and Prize Announcement next Thursday 29 October at 5.30pm.

Come celebrate the artists, meet the masterpieces and see who's taking home Best in Show!

Exhibition runs 30 October – 22 November.

Come along to Rosny Farm to see Caitlin Fargher's delightful solo exhibition Renewable at The Schoolhouse.

The Schoolhouse, Rosny Farm

In Renewable, Caitlin Fargher brings together clay and minerals sourced from the dammed rivers of lutruwita/Tasmania with recycled metal, salvaged materials and low-cost technologies powered by wind, water and sun.

Wobbly powerlines are cast from melted pewter. Fragile wind turbines emerge from fishbones and salvaged myrtle. Electric insulators warp and buckle, while water turbines are formed from recycled clay and glazed with ash from trees found at dam sites.

At the heart of the exhibition is a tension: between our growing demand for energy and the landscapes, materials and resources used to produce it.

It’s also personal. Fargher is the granddaughter of Frank Kinstler, a Hydro Electric Commission (HEC) dam engineer, and Renewable draws on this family history to consider both what has been altered and what has been passed down – practical knowledge, resourcefulness and a drive to make.

Through objects that are inventive, imperfect and deliberately handmade, Renewable asks what a different electrical future might look like – and whether simply changing how we produce energy is enough if we don’t also change how much we consume.

Some stunning details from Jillian Fitzpatrick's solo exhibition Wet Stone at The Schoolhouse.


Strange geologies and deteriorating landscapes: Wet Stone began as a dream of basalt columns on limestone and grew into an exploration of geology, memory and repetition. In this exhibition the medium of lithography is used to explore shapes and textures of submerged Australian landscapes from sandstone rubble to quartzite caves. These landscapes echo the materiality of lithography as a medium, relying on the immiscibility of grease, water and acid mirroring the geological processes that form our world, erosion, heat and pressure that shapes, transforms and recycles over time. Like a lithography stone which can be used, grained and used over and over again until it’s discarded.

Accompanying these works are reimagined and transformed geological landscapes with rock-like shapes, eel heads, termite mounds, fish in spotlights and birds on buoys. These works intend to reflect on natural and human artefacts that resemble geological structures. These colourful works serve as both visual counterpoints and conceptual supports to the monochrome prints, geological structures reimagined.

GOOD THINGS COME FROM SCRAPS.

Join exhibiting artists Jillian Fitzpatrick and Caitlin Fargher for a hands-on workshop turning recycled materials into one-of-a-kind, hand-bound art books.

Learn simple binding and stitching techniques, then make your book your own. Draw, paint, collage, decorate, scribble, experiment – whatever takes your fancy!

A place for big ideas, little doodles, favourite places, important stories or absolutely nothing in particular.

No experience needed. All ages welcome. Kids under 16 just need to bring an adult along.

Studios at Rosny Farm – a new project inviting
young people aged 16 - 24 from across Tasmania /
Lutruwita to help shape, build and bring a
temporary creative space to life in 2027.
You don’t need previous experience or a fully
formed idea – just an interest in getting involved
and trying something new.
