Conapaira Hotel owner Jonathan Streat says the pub is the "heart" of Rankins Springs, often acting as the only public meeting place for friends and family.

So when the building was destroyed by a fire in 1996, it had a devastating impact on the small community, which was quickly exacerbated by severe droughts.

But due to the sheer resilience of its residents, the town was back on its feet and growing as it celebrated its centenary earlier this month.
