Winter solstice celebration

Let’s celebrate the longest night of the year — Latin American style!

ISU TAKI warmly invites you to a night where ancestral traditions meet contemporary beats. As we honour the Winter Solstice, we embrace the darkness not with silence, but with rhythm, movement, and joy — marking the symbolic return of the sun and the start of a new cycle.

Expect the pulse of live drumming by Gustavo Moreno, Hybrid set by the one and only Kaiman Jimenez and DJ set by Cuban producer and DJ Wichy de Vedado as well as DJ sets by ISU TAKI Residents Otorongo and Cuerpo Negro Bringing you the unmistakable flavour of Latinoamérica — a fusion of folklore, electronic sounds, and pura gozadera!

 The night is long, but the light is on its way. Come dance it into being with us.

Experience the rich traditions of Bolivia with Bolivia Marka, a Brisbane-based dance group dedicated to preserving and showcasing Bolivian folkloric dances. Their performances, inspired by the UNESCO-recognized Oruro Carnival, feature vibrant costumes and dynamic choreography that reflect the diverse cultural tapestry of Bolivia. With over two decades of performances at festivals and community events, Bolivia Marka brings the spirit of Bolivia to the stage.

renowned Cuban choreographer and dancer, Yasim Coronado Veranes. As the director of Paradox Studio YCV Dance and N**o Dance Company, Yasim has a global career that spans contemporary, urban street, and Afro-Cuban dance styles. His innovative choreography and passionate performances have captivated audiences worldwide, and we’re thrilled to have him bring his unique fusion of cultural and contemporary dance to our Brisbane stage.

AFROSIDERAL (CUBA)

AKA is a multi-instrumentalist, composer, and music producer from Cuba, currently based in Europe with over 20 years of internationalexperience. A natural improviser, a mystical and ceremonial aura takes over the stage when he performs. He dances as if possessed by the drums, taking the audience from meditative states to trance. As a messenger of his ancestors, his verses carry the strength of a maroon, inviting introspection and elevating energy on a journey of no return. His music organically fuses ancestral and modern instruments. Charismatic, avant-garde, and versatile, he is influenced by Hip-hop, Jazz, Experimental Music, and Tropical Electronica, all under the umbrella of Afro music.

RUMBO TUMBA (ARGENTINA)
The Craftsman of Organic Loops

is the electro-acoustic music project by Argentine multi-instrumentalist Facundo Salgado, who has toured the World incessantly over the past 10 years to over 30 different countries.
 
A craftsman of organic loops, Salgado is a one man orchestra; playing, recording and mixing an array of exclusively artesanal wooden instruments native to South America in real time. Rumbo Tumba’s live sets feature his impressive all wooden solo ensemble which constructs a unique natural sound and atmosphere that takes audiences from all over the world on a journey to the purest places in nature. The loop-based compositions highlight the refined beauty of traditional folk roots and delicately uses cutting edge digital tools to project South American folklore into the future.

Supporting these 2 international artists, local support will be commanded by two incredible female DJs: , a strictly vinyl DJ from Bogotá, Colombia, making waves in Australia with her signature blend of Latin rhythms and soulful grooves. Now based in Eliora (Sydney), she’s a resident at Caterpillar Club, and co-founder of acclaimed parties Discoteca Tropical; and DJ , who will bring the ultimate fusion of Latin, Afro, and electronic rhythms. From deep tribal beats to pulsating grooves, her sound is a celebration of culture, movement, and connection. Alongside ISU TAKI collective DJs and , will be showcasing the best of their Folktronica selection.

With a touch of Andean, Caribbean and Brazilian afro, as well as other folk-flavored mestizo beats, ISU TAKI brings you the best of emerging beats from underground dancefloors across Latin America and beyond!!

And this time, to join the residents & -curinahuel we called a Latinex classics such as cumbia and more, delivered on wax by legendary Naarm-based DJ Soa Gaby; plus Sabutai, a master of ethnic organic electronica, delivering ancient yet modern groove to the dancefloor recipe.
