Did you know: 55% of women who access specialist homelessness services are fleeing from domestic or family violence.
This is a truly horrifying statistic, but itโs so much more than a number - itโs real people like you or I. These are peopleโs mothers, sisters, aunts and daughters. Theyโve been mistreated and abused, in some cases for years, by someone who was meant to love and cherish them. All too often, they have to leave their homes at a momentโs notice, with nothing but their children and the clothes on their back.
For so many of us, Christmas is about love and family. For women escaping domestic violence, Christmas can be a very painful โ it can highlight the recent split in their family unit, and the fact that theyโve lost the security of their home. The anxiety, sadness and loneliness they feel can turn Christmas into a heartbreaking, difficult season.
This Christmas, you can help by donating to our campaign. All you have to do is find a handbag, and fill it with items to make a woman in need feel special. Your gift is so much more than a handbag. To the lady who receives it, itโs proof that even in this time when she feels most alone, someone cares for and appreciates her.
