GET READY TO CREATE, PLAY & MAKE A LITTLE MAGIC!

Calling all our little artists, big imaginations and creative families!

Our Children’s Art Factory is coming to the Kids Kindness Village, and we’re inviting children to get hands-on, get creative and help bring our colourful cubby houses to life!

Across the day, children can paint, decorate and explore four interactive cubby houses, each with an important message about what every child deserves:

🏡 We All Belong – celebrating friendship, diversity and inclusion
🌱 We Can Grow – encouraging confidence, creativity and self-expression
🛡️ We Stay Safe – learning about personal space, body safety and trusted adults
📣 We Have a Voice – reminding children that their feelings and ideas matter

And the best part? It’s completely FREE!

Come along for a day filled with creativity, play, family fun, community connection and plenty of colourful mess!

Did you know that 1 in 2 Australians experience loneliness — and in regional areas like Queensland, those numbers are even higher?

In fact, local community surveys show that up to 62% of Fraser Coast residents have felt disconnected or isolated from the community at some point.

Loneliness isn’t always sitting alone in a dark room. Most of the time, it sneaks in quietly
It sneaks in when you’ve moved to a new neighborhood and don't know anyone yet.
It sneaks in after a big life change — retirement, a job shift, or becoming a new parent.
It sneaks in when your calendar is packed, but you haven't had a real, heart-to-heart conversation in weeks.
It can even sneak in when you’re in a room full of people.
The good news? Research shows that simply attending a local community group or making even one meaningful connection can cut feelings of isolation by up to 89%!

We are surrounded by incredible spaces, clubs, and volunteer groups right here on the Fraser Coast — but sometimes people just don't know where to look.

Celebrating a decade of leadership at HBNC

10 years ago, Tanya Stevenson stepped into the role of CEO at Hervey Bay Neighbourhood Centre. Last week we celebrated a decade defined by vision, growth, and unwavering dedication to our region.

Under Tanya’s leadership, HBNC has grown from strength to strength—expanding vital community programs, opening vibrant new spaces like The Neighbourhood Hive and The Tree House: Urangan Community Wellness Centre, and standing alongside our community through every challenge and milestone.

In her recent reflection on the last 10 years, Tanya shared:

"As CEO, I may have helped shape the direction, but it is our staff, volunteers, Board members, partners and community who have built the organisation that exists today. Thank you for believing in big ideas, for embracing change, for giving your time so generously and for reminding me, every single day, what community truly looks like. Communities are not built by organisations. They are built by ordinary people who choose to care for one another."

On behalf of the HBNC board, team, volunteers, and community—thank you, Tanya, for 10 incredible years of leadership, determination, and heart.

Help us celebrate Tanya’s milestone by dropping a message or congratulations in the comments below!

Tomorrow The AusAlert National Test will be held at 2pm.

AusAlert is a new national warning system that uses the latest
technology to send emergency messages to compatible mobile
devices.

This means that your devices, such as mobile phones, tablets and smart watches, may receive a test alert.

If this could disrupt you or cause you or
a loved one to feel unsafe, please turn off your mobile devices or
switch them to aeroplane mode before the scheduled test time in
your location, and leave them off for at least one hour.

As this is just a test, you don’t need to do anything, but in an actual
disaster you should follow the alert instructions to keep yourself and
others safe.

To learn what an AusAlert sounds like, visit ausalert.gov.au

Between the rush of school holiday routines, work, and endless to-do lists, it’s easy for the days to blur together. But what if we paused for just a moment? What if, instead of the usual routine, we chose a little bit of wonder and curiosity? ✨

As you can see on the 100 Days of Imagination is officially popping up across our beautiful town! Think of it not as another busy event to add to your calendar, but as a "gentle interruption" to your day—a small invitation to spark curiosity, kindness, and connection.

We have teamed up with some truly incredible local businesses who are hosting our interactive art pieces and imagination stations. These spots are designed to create those small, magical moments where families can smile, neighbours can meet, and our community grows stronger and more resilient.

We are so incredibly grateful to our local business hosts for helping us illuminate Hervey Bay with imagination! Why not drop in for a school holiday treat and explore a station together?

📍 Where to find a moment of wonder:

Pop in, say hello, and check out the imagination stations at these fantastic local spots:

Pialba: Hut Taste of Fiji BeanBeat , & The Hungry Pelican

Scarness: Sea Breeze Cafe Hervey Bay

Torquay: Aquavue Beachfront Bar & Eatery, Shaka Hut , & Olive Turkish Restaurant

Urangan: Hatch design and creative store & Pie & Pastry Paradise

🌱 Shape the future of our town:

Sometimes the smallest sparks create the biggest change. While the kids are exploring, take a moment to scan the QR code and complete our Community Survey.
