There are several variations on the Unity Candle.
Each of your mothers light a candle, then you and your fiancé use these candles to light a larger candle together.
Or you could start with one flame and spread it to all your guests who have been given an unlit candle before the ceremony begins resulting in a community-wide holding of the light.

Communal Blessing of the Rings - place the wedding bands in a lovely box or decorative pouch to be handed from guest to guest before the ring ceremony begins or during a period of music and reflection. Each guest holds the rings and silently offers a prayer or wish for the couple. In essence, the rings are warmed by the hands and hearts of the guests.

Handfasting, where couples bind their hands together with a ribbon to symbolize the joining of two lives, is an old pagan ritual that many modern couples have been adapting for their weddings. The ribbons can be brand new to symbolise the new relationship, a baby blanket might symbolise that the child is “your knot”, or a shirt you wore on your first date four years ago.

Hi, my name is John Dendy, and I’m the Celebrant behind J.D. Celebrancy. I’ve been a Celebrant since 2009 when i qualified. I’ve meet many awesome couples with different requirements, and do my upmost to meet their needs! My background is in customer service: I’ve been a tour guide on the Zambezi River, I’ve farmed, done landscaping and I've even re-trained as a nurse since being in Australia!

However, nothing has given me as much pleasure as being a full-time Celebrant, working for myself and for the couples I’ve been so blessed to meet. Since as a Celebrant in 2009, I am now so honored to finally be able to say that “marriage is between two people”.

I’ve been described as passionate, punctual and easy-going. Decide for yourself – lets meet up, have a coffee, tea or even a beer. If you like what you see, and you’re sure that I’ll be the right fit for your day, we can chat some more.

Create a Wedding Time Capsule with special mementos and letters from your guests that include well wishes, advice for married life, favourite memories of you two together, or anything else they’d like to include. Pass around a box during the ceremony for your guests to drop in their notes or gifts. Then, seal it up until your anniversary! What could be better during an anniversary than to read the blessings of loved ones at the time of the wedding?
