I was the celebrant for a wedding on Saturday held at booyeembara Park in Fremantle. What a great venue and one of the best kept secrets on what to do in Fremantle! The weather was perfect and the 100 plus attending had a ball catching up and having a laugh, making the service one of fun and positive memories.
I am sure Martin and Alice will have a life full of fun and great experiences together. A wonderful way to start there new life together.

In the heat of summer weddings can go avoidably wrong! Why?

Both parties need to eat before the wedding - You would be surprised at the number of brides and grooms who faint during the service!

Drink water at least 15 minutes before the service starts to keep hydrated - again helps to stop fainting and that awful dry mouth that seems to stop words from coming out no matter how hard you try!

Ask your visitors to turn off mobiles and the "click sound" on tablets and mobiles when taking pictures.

If the service is outdoors then find some shade to conduct the service or create a shady area with a pop up shade or umbrella.

Make sure your couple are not facing directly into the sun. Sounds so obvious doesn't it, however there is nothing worse than having to move the couple and guests in the middle of the service so they are not squinting during the service!

So What is the minimum needed to be legally married in Western Australia?

Not a lot really.
You need a state approved marriage Celebrant (used to be called civil celebrants) They will help fill out the Notice of intent to marry , sight the required documents and witness it. This must be completed at least 1 calendar month prior to the wedding date.

You both then need to sign and have witnessed a statuary declaration supplied by the celebrant before the wedding service.
During the service the celebrant must say a legally required paragraph and vows are then exchanged.

That's it. If you want to change your name (either party) you can do this after the event by completing a change of name form and pay currently $49 to Births, Deaths and Marriages.

Who does what at the wedding service?
This is often not as easy as you might like to wish for. There is always family politics at play and if you miss someone out or get the wrong person(s) doing a job you can soon start a war that gets out of control all to quickly!
So who does what and what is expected from them? I have found this neat outline article that answers these questions really well. I hope you get some useful insights from it....

Check out this guide to who's who in the wedding party, including the roles and responsibilities of each member for your big day and beyond.

You need to be on the lookout for some great deals this year. I have noticed that Perth venues especially are marketing very hard to get your business. So why not shop around and then ask what they can do for you to make them the only choice for your wedding venue!

At last some compassion and common sense to Marriage! And, a free marriage service for one lucky couple...

For too long those of us who prefer the same s*x were unable to publicly and lawfully proclaim how they felt and that they had a commitment to their partner exactly the same as "normal relationships".
I am, like the majority of Australians see no wrong in people loving each other and creating an environment where a family can grow and meet their true potentials.
I would like to express my approval of the new laws by marrying a couple for free. Yep everything included no more to pay!
Anyone booking a wedding between the 1st Dec and the 1st Feb will enter a draw and the lucky winner will have there wedding service undertaken free of charge.

At last, Love, understanding, compassion and justice has won the day. I would like to think that the government will act swiftly on this and make the possibility for all people in love to marry sooner than later. As a celebrant I shudder to think how long it will take to make the changes in the documentation that will be required and what guidelines we will be given to make sure we complete this correctly. I am looking forward to my first same s*x marriage as I know hundreds of thousands of couples across the country are as well.

If you were a NO supporter I trust that you can respect the decision the majority of Australians have made even though you do not agree with it. I feel strongly everyone has a right to believe in whatever they want to and act within social acceptance on that belief. This has been well demonstrated with this vote outcome today.
