This slip style wedding gown was too large through the bust and body 🤍

This gown is also cut on the bias, which means the fabric is cut diagonally across the grain rather than straight. It gives the gown its beautiful drape and stretch, but it also makes alterations far trickier, since the fabric can shift and behave differently to what you'd expect.

Cherry refitted the gown to follow her shape properly, taking in the sides and adjusting the bust so the jacquard fabric could sit smoothly, close to the body rather than loose around it.

This wedding gown started with draped sleeves and spaghetti straps. The bride wanted a strapless silhouette instead, along with a fit that felt entirely her own 🤍

Restyling a gown from sleeved to strapless isn't just about removing fabric. Cherry had to rebuild the internal structure and support so the bodice could hold its shape without straps. Alongside the restyle, the hips, sides and bust were refitted, and the hem was adjusted to complete the look.

When the zip won't close, there is always another way 🤍

This Aje dress belonged to our client's daughter. She wanted to wear it to a gala event but the fit wasn't quite there. Rather than leaving it unworn, Cherry converted the original zip closure to a corset back, creating the room she needed while keeping the integrity of the dress intact.

A corset back also means the fit can be adjusted each time she wears it.

A pearl embellished engagement gown, resized from bust to hips 🤍

Heavily embellished gowns require extra care when altering. Every seam has to be unpicked, adjusted and resewn with the beading and pearls in mind. Nothing can be rushed.

Sometimes life moves faster than the calendar.

A client came to us two days before his event with a simple ask: make his suit and shirt fit.

The burgundy trousers needed the waist taken in, the creases at the back resolved, the leg tapered, and the hem shortened. The burgundy jacket was too big through the waist, chest and hips so we took in the sides and back to bring it to his shape. The grey jacket needed the sleeves shortened. The shirt was too full to sit cleanly under the jacket, so we took in the sides and added two darts to the back so it followed his body the way it should.

Four garments. Two days.

When this bride first tried on her gown, the bust area was a size 14. By collection day, it fit her like it had been made for her at a size 8 🤍

She also wanted the neckline completely reimagined and draped. Cherry constructed it entirely from fabric brought in by the bride.

Structured gowns at this level of construction are not straightforward to resize. The diagonal boning that gives the bodice its waist-snatching shape adds real complexity, particularly where the boning meets the zipper. It requires experience, patience and a specialist eye.
