I was asked this week by a mum what led me to create Lumina...
Honestly, it feels like the culmination of my whole life.

From being a creative kid myself, to having a mum who was a Prep teacher and always encouraged making and creating. From teenage years spent crafting in my bedroom, to studying Fine Arts at university. Then came decades of small business — artistic inspired catering, wedding styling, graphic design and creating events and experiences for people to enjoy.
Looking back, the common thread has always been creativity.

Now, with Lumina, I get to bring all of those pieces together and create a space for kids and big kids alike. A place where the only thing you need to do is spend time with like minded people, make something, try something new and enjoy the process. No pressure. No expectations. Just creativity, connection and a little bit of fun.

It turns out I’ve been building Lumina my whole life.

Parents — are you looking to do keep the kids brains buzzing with creativity these July school holidays?
Our latest Little Makers school holiday program has just been released and you can book online.

Our What’s On Calendar is updated all the time, making it the best place to see everything happening at Lumina!! Whether you’re looking for school holiday activities, after-school workshops, weekend creativity, family events or classes for grown-ups, you’ll always find the latest events there.

These holidays we’ve brought back some much-loved favourites, including Adopt a Pet and Fairy Gardens, alongside brand new adventures like Teddy Bears’ Picnic, where children and their grown-ups will create a delightful spread of handmade picnic treats for their favourite teddy.

We’ve also introduced a series of artist-inspired workshops for older children, exploring the work of artists including Paul Klee, Henri Rousseau and Yayoi Kusama. Young artists will discover new ideas, experiment with different techniques and create artwork inspired by these incredible creatives.
And for the first time, artwork from the holiday workshops can be entered into our Little Makers Art Exhibition, transforming Lumina into a gallery celebrating the imagination and creativity of local children from 25 July – 5 August.

Soup & Stitch is our mid-week - slow lunch - welcoming space where people can meet others, enjoy a bowl of homemade soup and spend a couple of hours making something with their hands.
Each week we’ll have a selection of creative materials to play with and explore. Everything will be suitable for complete beginners, with plenty of guidance along the way. No prior experience required, no pressure to be artistic, and no expectation that you’ll leave with a masterpiece — just a couple of hours of creativity, conversation and connection. 😊
Take home some beaded earrings or stitched wall hanging this week!

What a fabulous weekend!

One of the ideas behind Lumina has always been that creativity has the power to bring people together.

Yes, we run workshops from our studio in North Hobart, but I also want to take that creative energy beyond our four walls — into community events, networking gatherings, team-building experiences, product launches, and anywhere people can benefit from making something together.

This weekend, we took Lumina on the road for the first time at Redbanks Cracker Night.

With an incredible team we helped 240 children decorate paper lanterns ready for the evening celebrations.

Watching tables fill with paint, glue, colour, imagination, and complete creative chaos was a pretty special moment.

Messy. Loud. Unpredictable. And absolutely joyful.

The smiles, the pride, the conversations, and the connections happening around those tables were exactly why Lumina exists.

Here's to many more creative adventures out in the community.
