Licensed Status Exposes System Failure, Not a Need for Knee-Jerk Gun Laws

The Shooters, Fishers and Farmers Party (SFF) says the response to the recent violent extremist attack must focus on system failure, not scapegoating lawful firearm owners to cover government inaction.

Yes, the offender was licensed — and that makes the failure more serious, not less.

Authorities had visibility. They had powers to monitor, suspend or revoke licences. Those powers were not acted on as extremist behaviour escalated.

Licensing did not cause this attack. Extremism did.
This was not a gap in the law — it was a gap in intervention.

“This attack was driven by extremist ideology, not by fi****ms licensing,” said Victorian SFF MLC Jeff Bourman. “When radicalisation emerges, authorities must intervene early. Ignoring warning signs and blaming the law after the fact is not public safety.”

Existing fi****ms laws already allow authorities to act when warning signs emerge. If those mechanisms had been used, this incident may have been prevented. The problem was not permission — it was inaction.

“This was not a gap in Australia’s fi****ms laws,” said NSW SFF MLC Robert Borsak. “The powers already exist. The failure was that they were not used.”

Attempts to pivot toward firearm caps, category restrictions or Western Australia-style administrative crackdowns distract from the real issue. This was a radicalisation and security failure, not a numbers problem.

“Western Australia-style laws punish compliance without addressing violent extremism,” said NSW SFF MLC Mark Banasiak. “They may look tough, but they won’t prevent attacks.”

Australia already has some of the strictest fi****ms laws in the world. Further punishing compliant, licensed firearm owners will not fix failures in intelligence, early intervention or enforcement.

“Lawful firearm owners should not be scapegoated to cover government failure,” said Tasmanian SFF MLA Carlo Di Falco. “Punishing people who followed the law does nothing to improve public safety.”

The Shooters, Fishers and Farmers Party supports strong action against violent extremism, proper use of existing powers, and accountability where authorities failed to act. We do not support symbolic lawmaking designed to look tough while avoiding hard questions.

Times change. Good on you George, The King!

Times change.
Good on you George, The King!

GEORGE STRAIT JUST CANCELED NEW YORK, AND THE SILENCE IS DEAFENING

He didn’t rage-post at 2 a.m.
He didn’t leak a press release through some slick Nashville PR firm.
He didn’t even let his manager do the talking.
At 7:43 p.m. on a quiet Thursday, a single sheet of cream-colored stationery was hand-delivered to the San Antonio Express-News. Nine words, written in the same black Sharpie he uses to sign autographs for kids on feed-store caps:
“I’m sorry, New York. I can’t sing there anymore.”
That was the headline.
The rest was pure George, short, plain, and final, like a gate latch clicking shut on a cold winter night:
“For forty-five years I’ve sung about the same people I grew up with: men who punch in before daylight, women who pray over hospital bills and still cook supper, kids who learn early that a handshake is a contract and a lie is a debt you pay with interest.
I can’t walk out under those lights in a city that looks at those people like they’re the punchline to a joke they never got told.
This isn’t about red or blue.
It’s about red dirt roads that still matter more than red carpets.
My songs were born on ranches, in dancehalls with chicken-wire stages, in churches with screens on the windows and mercy in the pews.
They don’t translate to places where the loudest voices have never heard a rooster, never lost a crop, never buried a friend who died too young because the plant closed.
I’m 73. I’ve got nothing left to prove and nothing left to lose except the only thing that ever mattered: the truth in the music.
So I’m keeping it where the porch lights still burn for people coming home tired, where pickup trucks still outnumber Ubers, where ‘yes ma’am’ isn’t vintage, it’s required.
The rest of the country is still welcome. Texas is still wide open.
But New York in 2026?
That stage stays dark.
God bless the working man.
God bless the working woman.
God bless the ones still raising kids to believe America is worth the sweat.
See you down the road,
George.”
He signed it with the little looping G he’s used since 1975.
Then he turned his phone off, kissed his wife Norma goodnight, and went to bed before 10, same as always.
By sunrise the internet was on fire.
Some called it the classiest mic drop in history.
Others screamed betrayal, bigotry, the end of civilization.
Ticketmaster crashed twice trying to process refund requests from people who suddenly didn’t want to go anymore, and from people who now wanted to fly to Texas instead.
George never looked at a single comment.
He was already out feeding the horses, humming “I Can Still Make Cheyenne” under his breath while the windmill turned slow and steady, like it has every morning of his life.
Tonight, from Luckenbach to Lubbock, from the Panhandle to the Piney Woods, every jukebox in Texas is playing a little louder.
Cold beer is being raised by rough hands that finally feel seen.
And somewhere in Manhattan, a promoter is staring at an empty calendar slot that used to say “George Strait – Sold Out.”
They’ll book somebody else.
They always do.
But they’ll never fill the quiet George Strait just left behind, quiet that sounds exactly like a screen door closing on a summer night, like boot heels on gravel walking away from something that no longer feels like home.
The King didn’t abdicate.
He just went back to the kingdom that never stopped believing in him.
Check yes or no, America.
George already did.
And the whole country heard the ones who still say grace before supper, the ones who still stand when the flag goes by, the ones who know the words to every song he ever wrote just felt the floorboards shake one more time.
Long live the King.
Long live the dirt he stands on.

A heart felt congratulations to you both. JB
