This week's guest mix comes from Eora-based DJ, FRANK, taking us through a solid cross-section of drum and bass - from the sounds that shaped the genre through to some of the darker, heavier territory she's drawn to.

FRANK might still be relatively fresh behind the decks, but performing definitely isn't new territory. Growing up in Nelson Bay, she spent years competing as a dancer before moving into musical theatre, eventually completing a Bachelor of Performing Arts (Stage and Screen) in 2024.

Now based in Eora (Sydney AU), she's thrown herself pretty heavily into the bass scene - both on the dance floor and behind the decks. She's already landed supports for Teej and Wingz hosted by Low-End Focus, played Dirty Hertz's Requiem, and more recently made her Chinese Laundry debut alongside her B2B partner Navï for Mami By Umami.

Her usual territory is the darker, grittier side of drum and bass - minimal, wobbly and heavy on the low end. But for this mix, FRANK has gone wider.
Digging back through the music that shaped drum and bass as well as where it's gone since, she pulls together tracks from Goldie, High Contrast, Chase & Status and Calibre alongside jungle, breakbeat, neurofunk, liquid and rollers - a solid cross-section of the sounds and styles that have caught her ear along the way.

Pretty bloody stoked to say Newy Bass Crew is heading back to Subsonic in November. 🔊

We'll be repping on the River Stage, with three B2Bs from the crew:

Subsonic has always meant a fair bit to us. For some of the crew, it was one of the places we first found some real solace within the Australian festival scene - a space that felt a little different. Underground music given room to breathe, creativity without too many rules, and a community of people who were there for more than just a big night out.

There's something pretty special about disappearing into that pocket of Worimi Country for a few days, surrounded by bush, river, art, strange sounds and good humans. It's a festival that has spent years carving out its own lane, and we've got a lot of love for that, so being invited back to bring a bit of Newy Bass Crew business to the River Stage again is something we’re genuinely proud of.

Our boy, IMPRV, joins us for NBC Presents: BIG THUMPING BASS CANNON TONIGHT at LVL ONE in Newcastle.

Moving through the deeper reaches of drum & bass, IMPRV blends autonomic and IDM influences with halftime jungle, minimal, liquid and heavier DNB. His sets are dark, immersive and technical, balancing intricate selections with plenty of low-end pressure.

A familiar face across the NSW bass community, IMPRV has played Dragon Dreaming Festival, Antigravity and Art Valley, alongside events from The Elements Of Tech & Bass, Breakneck Audio, HiveMind Events, Afterlife Drum & Bass, Rinse Out and more. He's also supported a huge list of artists including Mefjus, Culture Shock, The Upbeats, State of Mind, Koven, Phibes, Ed Solo, Serial Killaz, Bensley, Screamarts and Akov.

We've got marniezworld on deck for NBC Presents: BIG THUMPING BASS CANNON this Friday, 11 September at LVL ONE.

MZW brings together the sexier side of bass music with dubstep, 140 and dance, pulling from all corners of electronic music to keep things heavy, playful and full of movement.

Recent appearances include Rabbits Eat Lettuce, main support for What So Not in Mulubinba (Newcastle AU) , and a special guest slot for Hermitude's Newcastle stop of The Act, performing a full set of original music.

She's also set to play at Clitoverse in Bellingen, supporting CloZee at Street Level in Byron Bay, West Best Bloc Fest and Pandemonium Music & Arts Gathering.

Central Coast-based DJ and producer and a bit of a SYDDNB legend, SOULLESS is a regular across the Eora (Sydney AU) drum & bass circuit, featuring at Afterlife Drum & Bass, Real Fluid Drum n Bass, Bass Drop and more. He's also played Subsonic, supported the likes of Maduk, Unglued, Digital, Culture Shock, Pola & Bryson, Duskee, Monrroe, London Elektricity, A.M.C. and more, as well as hitting the airwaves with Breakneck Audio on Bondi Beach Radio.

A weapon on the decks, talented as hell and an all-round good human who knows how to bring the vibes. We're bloody stoked to have him on this one.
