Each October, Black Dog Institute’s One Foot Forward brings people together to walk, run or move in solidarity with Australians affected by mental illness, raising funds for mental health research, education and services. One in five Australians experience mental illness each year.

Today, Morley walked the short circuit at Motormall Wanneroo Raceway, adding steps to his 150km goal. He has already smashed his $1,000 fundraising target, raising an incredible $3,942 at the time of this post.

What began as a double dog dare to dress up has become a meaningful way to raise awareness. Peter says he doesn’t experience anxiety or depression himself, but knows people who do. “If dressing up like this, telling the dad jokes that I do, can make someone smile for that long, it’s worth it. If it helps them stick around for another day, that’s all that matters.”

Peter hopes that greater awareness will encourage people to reach out for help, “If people are aware they might seek to do something.”

To everyone who has supported Peter, thank you. As he says, “The money is phenomenal, it goes to worthwhile causes, to help people to realise that there is help out there if you need it.”

Congratulations, Peter, and thank you for using your effort and humour to support an important cause. Find out more or donate towards his 150km goal here:
