Where did Christmas in July start?
According to legend, Christmas in July was first celebrated at a girls’ summer camp in 1933, when Keystone Camp in Brevard, North Carolin, complete with cotton fake snow, a decked-out tree and a gift exchange. A few years later, the concept hit pop culture when the movie Christmas in July arrived in theaters in 1940.

In Australia, Christmas in July is often attributed to a group of Irish tourists that travelled to Sydney’s Blue Mountains in 1980. Delighted to see snow on their summer trip, they convinced a local hotel owner to hold a “Yulefest” party. It encouraged other businesses to have their own Christmas-themed events, with special offers to sweeten the celebration.
Whatever the case, we love celebrating Christmas twice! 🎄 ☃️ 🤶
