Based in Oaklands, NSW, Empire Proteas grow and supply proteas, leucadendrons and a growing number of Australian natives to the local region. Situated on a 5 acre block, we currently have 1,000 plants of over a dozen varieties to offer our customers. Whether you’re a florist placing a weekly order, a business looking for a regular floral arrangement or that one off customer to mark that special oc

casion, both large and small, we are happy to work with you to provide the best quality stems for your needs. With the vast majority of our flowers picked within 24-48hrs of reaching our clients and coming straight from the farm to the customer, it’s hard to find flowers with more life in them. You can find us at a number of markets in the Border area where you can purchase your stems individually or choose from one of our different sized mixed posies, boxed arrangements and baskets. We also take orders for wreaths, bulk orders and are happy to discuss customised requirements you may have. We are excited to build our business with you and are looking to expand our varieties to cater for all tastes and seasons.

This is part of the business that I not only want to learn more about but share within the community. One advantage of having no knowledge is I don’t know if I’m making any mistakes. The kids get to see the cycle of raising seeds to small plants and then getting to pick the resulting flowers. I think the next part is letting plants go to seed and harvesting the seeds and learning about that cycle of life with the end goal of being able to share the same experience with the younger generation in the community

We grew some broccoli in what I’d consider not ideal conditions. They looked to be a bit too leggy as I didn’t have the green houses transitioned out of summer so I gave up on them but left 1 tray on the trampoline. Fast forward a few weeks and Emma was wondering how they were going and I told her I’ll get some from Bunnings.

I could easily repurpose these proteas into new arrangements and no one would even know.

These are the left overs from our supermarket run and it seems like a waste to just throw them out. I’ll be making up 4 bundles of gift boxes available to purchase. 2 boxes for $30.

Whilst they mightn’t be fresh off the tree they still have a lot of love to give. I’m out at the flowers picking now so can’t put together any photos so you’ll just have to trust me on the final outcome

These were seedlings dying in the greenhouse and I was just back from spinal surgery so couldn’t do anything with them. I got Orson to fill up some pots and I thought I’d try them down the side of the shed. Since then I’ve forgotten about them, didn’t water them, no fertiliser and peeped around the corner and saw these. They are a bit late in stage for bouquets so I’ll let the bees have them and then harvest the seeds when the time comes but like most of things looking forward to the next 12 months with having a much better set up for the plants

It’s Monday morning and you look out your window and presented with a gloomy day. You check the BOM website and find out it’s raining and not getting above 20 all week. Just as a pinch of sadness sets in you remember that it’s a scientific fact (that I just made up) that flowers create a 67% increase in Dopamine levels. You tell your children that fact and they are hysterical so it must be true.

I’ll be out picking fresh flowers tomorrow as I prepare for the next lot of plantings.
