It’s been an interesting off season for the MCSSC, but we are finally ready to show off our 🤩 new look 🤩 and are excited to welcome all our Bulldogs players & supporters to our first home game tomorrow! 🐶🐾
In early December 2024 we discovered that about a quarter of our ceiling had collapsed in, bringing down the power cords, lights, speakers, etc with it! Our committee worked hard that night to remove the fallen materials and start the clean up, along with an insurance claim.
Our insurance company then made things safe and contained with a temporary ‘black plastic ceiling’ so the very successful Whippy Griggs night could still go ahead in late December.
During January we awaited the insurance claim to be processed and started getting quotes from trades.
In early February our committee had another working bee to remove the rest of the ceiling (except the section by the kitchen end which was replaced just a few years ago when the straw ceiling was removed), and remove all honour boards and displays, etc from walls, projector and other electrical equipment plus move the furniture out, so trades could start to replace the ceiling.
While the room was looking very bare, our committee joked that maybe we should gyprock the brick walls too (something that had been on our wishlist for a while!). This then became a reality, and the small ceiling repair job turned into a full blown reno - ceiling, walls, painting of whole internal building, new down lights, upgraded electrical work!
During Feb & March our tradies all worked hard, along with many volunteer hours by our committee.
Finally, tonight, we have things finished, cleaned and set up, ready for tomorrow. It’s looking bright, light, fresh & modern! 👏
We thank our hirees (regular and new) for their understanding and flexibility over the past few months, with declined and cancelled bookings, or relocations of events and meetings, or using the facilities in a ‘mid Reno state’.
A big shout out to our president Rhys Evans who has put in the hard yards to lead the project, coordinating all trades, plus leading the volunteer work, putting in many, many, many evening & weekend hours - his kids will be looking forward to seeing him again! Thanks also to the rest of the committee for their help, in particular Perrin Hicks & Ash Pacitti.
A big cheers to local trades: Brent Creek & his gyprocking team and Dylan from Bolton Electrical Services for their work.
We hope our patrons enjoy the new look!
